Who we're looking for

Toyota North Carolina's (TBMNC) Central Technical Services Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Product Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to plan, develop, and support the product engineering department to ensure product quality and safety, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive innovation to meet customer/market demands.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the department's objective to support the manufacturing and design teams in producing the highest quality product to exceed our customer's expectations.

What you'll be doing

  • Facilitate collaboration between design and manufacturing teams to support design intent and manufacturability of battery cells, modules, and packs.
  • Lead product investigations and provide technical support when process/quality engineers face challenges meeting design requirements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve product-related issues.
  • Support testing and validation activities to ensure product compliance with safety, reliability, and performance standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on manufacturing feedback and product performance data.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Research and Development (R&D), quality assurance, supply chain, and process engineering teams.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the department.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product engineering or related field, preferably in battery manufacturing or automotive components.
  • Strong understanding of battery technologies, including cell, module, and pack design principles.
  • Proven experience in design support and product troubleshooting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis tools and methodologies (TBP, FTA, etc.).
  • Design evaluation experience (DRBFM, DFMEA, etc.).
  • Process evaluation experience (QAN, PFMEA, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with engineering software tools (e.g., CAD, data analysis software).

Added bonus if you have

  • Master's degree in related technical or business field.
  • Experience with electric vehicle battery systems and related standards.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process engineering and quality systems (e.g., ISO/TS 16949).
  • Familiarity with battery testing protocols and validation methods.
  • Experience with project management and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Ability to mentor and lead engineering teams.
  • Battery product development / manufacturing experience.
  • Cross-functional work experience (quality, manufacturing, engineering, maintenance).
  • DOE development and implementation experience in high-volume operations.
