Who we're looking for
Toyota's Battery Manufacturing Production Engineering Division is looking for a driven and highly motivated Production Engineer to work in the BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) group to support the successful line-off of North America's 1st EV production site for prismatic lithium-ion battery cells -> battery modules to charge Toyota's future for Electric Vehicle Production.

The primary responsibility of this role is to procure, coordinate, install, and launch Powertrain battery equipment to support new model launches.
What you'll be doing
- Completing internal and external training
- Developing process plans for battery production lines within the Powertrain department with direct support from the Manager
- Working in a collaborative team environment (supporting other Engineers, Construction Management Group Technicians, etc) to achieve project milestones
- Leading the cost planning, budget creation, machine specification, equipment procurement, validation, installation, pre-production trials, and launch of battery production lines
- Focus of this team:
- Schedule Management
- Equipment Procurement
- Equipment Installation strategy planning to Execution (New Automation Equipment Installation + Commissioning; on-site with General Contractor, performing duties with strong safety mindset)
- Equipment Verification: Pre-ship equipment run-off, Post Install equipment run-off
- Punchlist Item Identification, Root Cause Analysis, Countermeasure Management, Trial Support
- KPI Summarization, Mass-Production Handover, Production Issues support
- Cross-functional Team Engagement (Toyota US & Toyota International Team) to discuss open items, key project schedules/milestones
- Focus of this team:
- Creating and maintaining detailed schedules and budgets for assigned areas
- Participate in cross-functional working groups across the local facility and corporate departments to achieve project goals
- Participate in a mentor program to grow as an engineer and learn from others within the department
What you bring
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical field
- Experience in Production Preparation or Manufacturing and experience in execution of capital projects, preferably from initial strategy planning to the start of mass production
- Project management experience dealing with capital investments $500k+
- Experience in creating and implementing processes in a manufacturing environment
- Ability for business travel, both domestic and international, short (1-5 days) and long term (1-2 weeks). Short-term travel to PEMC, Japan, Local US Vendors, etc. could be up to 15-25% until site location and machinery arrival begins. Upon site location, the normal travel both domestic and international will subside to 10-20%
- Ability to work weekends and shutdown work (such as July and December shutdown) as needed, based on project condition and schedule
- Understanding of GD&T and ability to read and interpret 2D drawings | Building facilities + Process Equipment drawings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- AutoCAD, or similar 2D drafting software experience
Added bonus if you have
- Installation experience in a greenfield setting; site-built new manufacturing facilities
- Experience and/or exposure to the battery manufacturing processes
- Toyota Production Engineering experience
- Experience with Electrode production (specifically coating, calendering, laser tab cutting)
- Toyota Business Practice experience
- PLC experience, including the ability to read, investigate and troubleshoot
- Statistical process analysis and process quality control
- Japanese language ability (Rank N1-N5)
