SPACEPORT ENGINEER, STARBASE DEVELOPMENT

As a member of the Starbase Development team you will be directly responsible for the design and build of complex engineering projects from cradle to grave. You will work with a group of elite engineers and construction project managers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and commission infrastructure that will enable orbital launch capability for the largest rocket in the world, Starship. This position is based in Starbase, Texas (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead MEP design and coordination for residential, commercial, and industrial projects
  • Partner with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details
  • Prepare and review design drawings and documents for mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems and specifications for a variety of engineering projects
  • Manage construction activities related to MEP systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
  • Use construction/engineering knowledge to expedite the design process and solve conflicts during construction
  • Write and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
  • Perform project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
  • Oversee and own full lifecycle of tasks and/or projects to achieve on-time and under budget delivery with customer satisfaction. The following project management responsibilities are applicable:

  • Manage tools and folder systems relating to the organization of our construction projects
  • Provide budgetary costs based upon the preliminary scope of the project
  • Gather proposals from architects, engineers and contractors; assign contracts upon receipt of all proposals
  • Develop the final cost and schedule for the project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule and scope
  • Facilitate city, county, and governmental approvals
  • Coordinate project implementation and track project status
  • Work with the facilities team and customers in order to operationalize the post-construction building operations and maintenance functions
  • Coordinate with customer and facilities teams for building operations and maintenance
  • Manage night shift contractors as project work requires
  • Take on new projects ad-hoc as the business needs
  • Coordinate permit acquisition/closeout with permitting team
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or structural engineering
    • 1+ years of experience creating structural, civil, or MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, and details

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, think critically, and drive successful outcomes
    • Possess the mentality of extreme ownership. Owning project outcomes from the concept phase to customer turnover
    • Experience in construction, project management, and tenant improvement
    • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other MEP design and analysis software
    • Proficiency with design and construction of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R), controls systems, fire protection systems, concrete, structural framing, and industrial gas trades
    • Ability to read instructions and blueprints
    • Knowledge of basic construction and engineering principles and method
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required
