Systems Engineer (Hybrid in Bangalore)

Smartsheet is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with a robust technical background, deep expertise in Identity and Access Management (IAM), and strong operational experience in enterprise cloud and on-premises environments. This role is pivotal in securing our critical systems and data by designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure and IAM solutions that drive operational excellence.
This position reports to the Sr. Director, Identity & Systems Engineering.
You Will:
- Lead the planning, deployment, and administration of IaaS and SaaS environments across AWS, Azure, and GCP platforms.
- Support and maintain core Windows and Linux server infrastructure. Oversee Windows and Mac desktop engineering initiatives and provide advanced systems support, mentoring Service Desk and junior IT staff to foster continuous improvement.
- Design and integrate AI/ML solutions to automate routine IT operations and security tasks, improving team efficiency and responsiveness.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Identity and Access Management (IAM), designing and implementing robust authentication, authorization, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) solutions.
- Administer IAM tools (e.g., Okta, Active Directory) and security platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, Rapid7, Trend Micro, Tenable, Wiz).
- Investigate and respond to IAM-related security incidents, using AI/ML-based tools for anomaly detection, User Behavior Analytics (UBA), and automation.
- Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams to meet regulatory standards (SOX, HIPAA, PCI) and address suspicious activity.
- Monitor system usage and performance, conducting technical investigations to resolve complex issues. Participate in a rotational on-call schedule for corporate infrastructure support.
You Have:
- 3+ years as a Systems Engineer or Security Engineer supporting production Windows and Linux environments.
- Hands-on experience managing infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP, with a strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell or similar languages.
- Expertise in Active Directory and IAM concepts including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Privileged Access Management (PAM), and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
- Experience with Single Sign-On (SSO) platforms such as Okta and related IAM tools.
- Demonstrable experience with security platforms, including: Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR): e.g., CrowdStrike & Vulnerability Scanning: e.g., Rapid7, Tenable
- Strong understanding of networking, firewalls, VPNs, routing, and switching.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as SOX, HIPAA, and PCI
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
