What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an entry-level Safeguards & Security Planning and Operations Specialist to support Visitor Control, Personnel Security program for the Field Intelligence Element (Org 5112) and a Safeguards & Security Planning and Operations Specialist to support Special Access Program (SAP) for the Program Security Office (Org 5114). These positions will involve analyzing, interpreting, and implementing Executive Orders, Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs), DOE Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence (DOE IN) requirements, DOE Orders, Department of Defense (DoD) Orders and internal procedures.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Understand and interpret federal laws, regulations, and requirements related to personnel security for the Intelligence Community (IC) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), DoD Orders and other government agency (OGA) requirements.
- Support personnel security functions, requests, and questions.
- Manage classified information, including classification/marking guidance and destruction activities.
- Schedule and conduct Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) indoctrination briefings and debriefs.
- Collaborate with the Special Security Officer (SSO), Alternate Special Security Officers (ASSO), CPSOs (Contractor Program Security Officers) and other stakeholders on personnel security matters.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide results/analysis to management.
- Develop and test new visitor control and badging procedures.
- Manage day-to-day operations, including PIN issuance, badge creation, and access control systems.
- Assist with the development of standard operating procedures.
- Support and lead activities associated with Top Secret control accountability.
- Track and analyze metrics and data.
- Carry a pager and respond to security matters outside of normal working hours as needed.
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$72,800 - $140,600
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; or directly related equivalent experience (AS + 4 years or no degree + 8 years).
- Minimum of two years of personnel security experience.
- Active DOE Q-level (or DOD equivalent) security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Active SCI clearance.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and safeguard classified and sensitive information.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with all levels of staff and management.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience interacting with federal oversight.
- Understanding of various security-related DOE Orders, DoD requirements, Intelligence Community Directives, and/or Sandia policies.
- Experience with Special Access Programs, including processing PARs, PSQs and Visit Requests.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in processing security-related documentation and compliance with established protocols.

The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) and the Program Security Office perform high-impact, national security work for the Intelligence Community, Department of Energy, and Department of Defense. These teams protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with security requirements, providing a secure environment for innovation and exceptional service in the national interest.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
