Position
MIO is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Research & Investment Technology team and help build and scale our market data platform. This is an opportunity for an early- to mid-level professional to deepen their expertise at the intersection of data engineering and financial markets.
In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers and architects to ingest, transform, and ensure the quality of market data from leading providers such as Bloomberg, LSEG, and ICE. You will gain hands-on experience with modern data pipelines, cloud-based infrastructure, and the complexities of financial datasets, while building a strong foundation in scalable data systems that support research and trading workflows.

- Data Pipeline Development
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for market and reference data
- Support data ingestion, transformation, and loading across systems
- Monitor pipeline performance and troubleshoot issues under guidance
- Data Modeling: Analyze vendor datasets across asset classes and map them to the MIO canonical data model
- Vendor Integration: Integrate data from providers such as Bloomberg and Refinitiv; normalize and standardize datasets for firmwide use
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Portfolio Managers and Analysts to deliver reliable, bespoke data solutions for research and trading
- System Architecture: Contribute to the design and evolution of scalable data architectures using modern frameworks and cloud services
- Infrastructure Management: Manage and optimize data infrastructure, including Aurora SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Redshift); support the evolution of scalable storage solutions
- Data Management and Operations: Monitor platform health, manage alerts, and resolve production issues within defined SLAs
- Data Quality and Governance: Implement data quality checks and controls to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability across datasets
- Cost Review and Optimization: Review our data usage, infrastructure, and vendor spend; identify opportunities to improve efficiency and align with budget
- Bachelor's or master's in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field
- 5+ years of experience working with financial datasets, preferably in buy-side (hedge fund) or capital markets environments, including renowned data providers such as Bloomberg, ICE, or LSEG
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL; experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines working with orchestration tools is preferred
- Hands-on experience with AWS, including services such as S3, Aurora, Athena, Redshift, and Lambda
- Experience with CI/CD practices and AWS-native tooling
- Familiarity with data governance, lineage, and data quality frameworks
- Solid understanding of financial data concepts, including market data, security masters, time-series data, and reference data across asset classes (e.g., commodities, fixed income, FX, digital asset, etc.)

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to an individual's assigned office location, experience, and expertise. Certain roles are also eligible for bonuses, subject to MIO's discretion and based on factors such as individual and/or organizational performance. Additionally, MIO offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental and vision coverage, telemedicine services, life, accident and disability insurance, parental leave and family planning benefits, caregiving resources, a generous retirement program, financial guidance, and paid time off.
Base salary range
$180,000-$180,000 USD
