Location : Auckland/Christchurch, New Zealand
The Role: We are looking for a skilled Database Administrator with expertise in MSSQL to manage and maintain our growing database infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our MSSQL environment. This role demands a deep understanding of MSSQL architecture, performance optimization, high availability solutions, and security best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain MSSQL database servers.
- Perform database upgrades, patching, and migrations.
- Implement and manage backup and recovery.
- Monitor database performance and identify and resolve performance issues.
- Perform query optimization and database tuning.
- Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures.
- Manage user roles, permissions, and access controls.
- Troubleshoot database errors and outages.
- Develop and maintain database documentation and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with development teams on database design and query optimization.
- Implement and manage high availability and replication solutions (e.g., Always on replication, Failover Manager).
- Perform database capacity planning and forecasting.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
- Proven experience (typically 8+ years) as a MSSQL Database Administrator.
- Strong understanding of MSSQL architecture and internals.
- Hands-on experience with MSSQL installation, configuration, and administration.
- Proficiency in T-SQL.
- Solid understanding of MSSQL backup and recovery methods.
- Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools (e.g Execution Plan).
- Knowledge of MSSQL security best practices.
- Experience with high availability and replication techniques in MSSQL.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Strong Experience with streams replication
- Strong performance tuning skills and experience
- Experience in migrating from MSSQL to Azure will be an added plus
- Experience in migrating from on premises to Azure DB's will be an added plus
- Well versed in storage management and storage tuning
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
- Hands on experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Solid understanding of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively
- MSSQL DBA certifications.
- Experience with other database technologies.
- Experience with cloud-based MSSQL services (e.g., Azure Database for MSSQL).
- Hybrid Work environment
- 8x7 shift-based support, weekend and holiday support on requirement basis
- Excellent customer interfacing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and outstanding analytical and Problem-solving skills.
