Your role and responsibilities
As an Associate Data Engineer at IBM you will harness the power of data to unveil captivating stories and intricate patterns. You'll contribute to data gathering, storage, and both batch and real-time processing.
Collaborating closely with diverse teams, you'll play an important role in deciding the most suitable data management systems and identifying the crucial data required for insightful analysis. As a Data Engineer, you'll tackle obstacles related to database integration and untangle complex, unstructured data sets.

In this role, your responsibilities may include:
- Data pipeline development: Design, build, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines using PySpark for extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data.
- Data architecture: Develop and manage data models, databases, data lakes, and data warehouses to support business intelligence and analytics needs.
- Data quality and integrity: Implement data validation, cleansing, and error handling processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
- Performance optimization: Troubleshoot, optimize, and improve the performance of existing PySpark applications and data processes.
- Collaboration: Work with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver relevant data solutions.
Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
- Programming: Strong proficiency in Python and PySpark is essential.
- Databases and SQL: Solid understanding of SQL and experience with various database systems.
- Big data technologies: Knowledge of big data frameworks, distributed computing, and cloud AWS.
- ETL: Basic Experience in designing and implementing ETL processes with AWS Glue.
Preferred technical and professional experience
Familiarity with data modeling, data governance, and version control is often required. A bachelor's degree in a related field like Computer Science or IT is usually a prerequisite.
