The opportunity:

You will be part of global HSE and Sustainability community of Hitachi Energy that oversees and develops strategies to ensure safe working conditions as well as healthy workplace and focus on supporting our customer's journey on climate and circularity. This role will directly report to the Operating Unit (OU)HSE and Sustainability Manager of Grid Integration Business Unit, , with dotted line responsibility to the Operation Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing HSE and Sustainability activities at project sites and will ensure the successful implementation of strategic programs across the OU, in line with Business Unit Grid Integration strategy and Hitachi Energy's requirements. Provide support, coaching and advice to leadership and line managers on HSE and Sustainability matters and report on the performances of the respective country along BU value chain. Support the business by applying in-depth HSE and Sustainability knowledge to offer solutions and advice.

How you'll make an impact:

  • You will collaborate closely with the business unit HSE and Sustainability Manager to provide strategic direction in the country, bringing rigor through operational discipline, in line with the business unit strategy and Hitachi Energy's requirements, provide support, leadership and advice to ensure consistency in the implementation, application and compliance with the Project HSE plan. You will provide support and ensure local business unit operate in compliance with the HSE Operating System Standards, Life Saving Rules and High-risk activities at project sites, drive HSE legal compliance and control the conformity and provide strong leadership to promote a high-performance culture, role modeling and reinforcing the behaviors that will underpin business growth.
  • You will conduct site inspection & assessment to evaluate HSE performance of subcontractors and develop inspection report, hazard and recommendation for improvement. You are authorized to initiate stop work (Time Out For Safety) at site if any noncompliance for High Risk Activities HSE requirements
  • You will lead HSE Workshop before project start, MySafety Review before each HRA start and review of daily MySafety Focus submission by Site Manager.
  • You will share all high risk activities documentation with high transparency and address HSE issue and highlight and recommendation for improvement with action plan and act as a change management agent, serving as the Technical Authority, contribute to effective risk management of HSE related issues by providing specialist knowledge, ensure timely and accurate reporting for GI-BU HSE as required by Hitachi Energy such as MySafety Program.
  • You will prepare daily, weekly and monthly HSE report in timely manner to Unit HSE Manager & Project Manager and ensure timely notification of HSE incidents, investigations, preventive and corrective actions and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensure safe execution of project activities by being involved in the project planification, preparation and execution and visit sites activities to ensure compliance with Hitachi Energy's HSE and customer's requirements.
  • You will lead/review investigations of HSE incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and if necessary, the Fair Process investigations, foster a proactive and positive culture of continuous improvement in HSE performance by implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
  • You will promote Hitachi Energy HSE and Sustainability culture to our clients, other departments and employee groups, manage and develop the HSE supporting project sites & ability to frequently travel for periodic site visits, audits, workshops, trainings.

Your background:

  • You hold engineering degree or a bachelor's degree in HSE required (engineering can be in any discipline if supported by proven HSE experience)
  • Hold Green Book certification from DOSH and eligible to work in all Malaysia territories.
  • Minimum of 5 years of strong HSE experience, preferably in high-risk industries such as Construction, Energy, Power, or related fields with experience in leading HSE projects, fostering safety culture, and implementing innovative solutions and best practices. Service experience is not mandatory but will be considered a plus
  • Proven expertise in risk assessment, mitigation planning, high-risk activities mgmt.
  • Excellent communicator, fluent in English and other languages (advantage) and possess good relationship-building skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels. You will be stationed at project sites but able to travel to other sites in Malaysia when required, and travel frequency may be around 20-30%.
  • Familiar with online reporting and application such as Intelex, Power BI, MS list is a plus
