Lead Civil Engineer

At Hitachi Energy, we are establishing and developing an Operation Center of Excellence in Madrid, Spain (ESOPC) within the Grid & Power Quality Solutions business in Europe (HBUEU).
As a Lead Civil Engineer you will be the technical authority for civil engineering activities in High and Medium Voltage Substation projects across Europe. Working with international project teams, customers, and suppliers, you will drive the delivery of safe, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions from design through construction.
This role offers the opportunity to lead complex projects, influence key technical decisions, and contribute to the energy transition.
How you'll make an impact
- Lead and coordinate all civil engineering activities for substation and power quality projects.
- Ensure the quality, completeness, and functionality of the civil scope throughout project execution.
- Deliver civil designs, calculations, and technical documentation from basic engineering to as-built stages.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations during engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
- Support project and contract managers in assessing scope changes, claims, risks, costs, and schedule impacts.
- Prepare civil engineering work plans, resource estimates, and risk assessments.
- Support site activities through planning, supervision, reporting, and resolution of technical issues.
- Coach and support engineers and project teams while building strong customer relationships.
Your background
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- More than 10 years of experience in civil engineering and/or site construction for high- or medium-voltage substations.
- Strong expertise in substation civil design, engineering, and construction execution.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and external engineering partners.
- Knowledge of BIM methodology.
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
