Job Description
The Secondary System Engineer will carry out engineering designs in the protection, control and auxiliary systems discipline for transmission & distribution and power generation projects and tenders in accordance with the project specifications, agreed timeframes and Company Management Systems.
The Secondary System Engineer provides direction and assistance to a work group to meet assigned objectives. In this role, you will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Be part of the team in designing or in charge of designing the protection and control system, Electrical distribution, & auxiliary systems of a High voltage & Medium voltage AIS & GIS substations
- Execute the design, analysis, and / or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Carry out factory and/or site testing of protection systems to validate the design, manufacture and installation, utilising a range of modern secondary injection and protocol test equipment.
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project.
- Carry out investigations into protection systems behaviour and provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
- Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

- Demonstrate EHS leadership and ensure Zero Deviation Plan is implemented within the team.
- Identifies and evaluate EHS risks in own area and implements practical measures.
- Participates in hierarchical/ team safety visits and leads EHS improvement initiatives.
- Sets objectives and measures results to encourages EHS performance as a contributing factor to reach business objectives.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Science or Engineering, with major in electrical engineering
- At least 4-5 years' working experience in power system protection, such as design, consulting, testing, and commissioning.
- Experience of a leading role in managing engineering activities is a plus
- Knowledge of Australian and IEC standards related to power systems and equipment.
- Ability to travel onsite when required. Expected to be up to 30% away depending on business need (e.g. during testing, commissioning, and site visits).
