Lead Civil Engineer - Structural Design

Job Description Summary
Lead Civil/Structural engineer designing electrical high voltage substations is a technical leader across the engineering teams who leads the proper performance of civil work design packages, including calculations and studies, and ensures performance in committed budget, schedule, and quality.

Objective is to plan & lead basic and detailed design, to manage / monitor detailed execution progress, and to coordinate execution of civil engineering design work packages done by subcontractors. Work packages may integrate documents required for permits, procurement, manufacturing, and site construction.

Job Description

The Lead Civil Engineer will provide site support during construction. He/she will follow customer specifications or requirements and should be knowledgeable of international and local Building Code regulations and internal standards.

The Lead Civil Engineer is able and willing to certify finished engineering products as proper and correct--including Professional Engineering reviews and sealing.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the design & construction of the physical and naturally built environment, including work such as: soil mechanics, seismic analysis, and foundations for GEV supplied equipment.
  • Performs or s pecifies the design and the requirements for all underground and above ground civil works and specifies the civil contractor for the same (leveling, foundations, slabs, duct banks, etc.).
  • Also include C ivil W orks cost estimating, constructability assessments and sequencing, understanding of local civil codes and standards, design safety and the application of structural steel, civil, and geotechnical engineering principals.
  • Conducts analysis and design of industrial structures that support or resist static and dynamic loads.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 5 years industry related experience designing structural steel and foundations


Desired Characteristics:

  • Structural Engineering experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience designing structures and foundations for electrical T&D substations.
  • Site field experience and construction methods impacting civil and structural design.
  • Experience with site preparation and drainage design. Knowledge of geotechnical analysis and design.
  • Background experience with reviewing architectural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing for buildings
  • Working knowledge of civil design software packages: L-pile, STADD, RISA 3D and Foundation
