Job Description Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and experienced Drives Control Application Software Engineer to join GE Power Conversion's Engineering group working on new technology and contribute to the design and development of our next generation products.
The Drives Control Application Software Engineer is responsible for developing the Control Application Software for GE Power (PC)'s range of new Electric Drive Systems. This is a technical role and will involve working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to specify, design, code & validate application software for MW-scale power electronic drive systems for Marine, Naval, Energy and Industry applications.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • This Role Involves
  • Responsibility for the design, development and maintenance of Drive Control Application Software including:
    • Requirements, design, implementation and testing of control application software for converter systems and electrical drives,
    • Writing application software that interfacing to other peripheral equipment,
    • Validation of application software using Hardware In the Loop (HIL) rigs and Laboratory test drives,
    • Developing and maintaining good engineering interfaces to other engineering teams such as, Power Electronics, Automation and Power System teams to provide a fully Integrated System Solution,
    • Supporting commissioning and validation of electrical drive systems.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university or college (or equivalent qualification) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent subject.
  • Essential Requirement
  • Experience working with Variable Speed Drives Application Software,
  • Experience implementing and validating Application Software,
  • Experience in capturing & creating requirements documents, technical reports, and functional design documents,
  • Good understanding of converter system and power converter topologies for AC/DC, DC/AC and DC to DC converter systems, etc,
  • Willing to travel to customer site for meetings or equipment validation,
  • be eligible to obtain UK security clearance to BPSS clearance level or higher.
  • Desired, Not Essential Requirement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experienced in creating and presenting technical reports and responding to clients' technical questions.
  • Good understanding of drive control system architectures.
  • Strong understanding of electrical machines: DC, Induction, Synchronous and Permanent magnet machines.
  • Good understanding of Product Life Cycle and configuration management.
  • Experience in Agile project execution including planning and execution of the planned engineering activities.
