As an Automation Technician, you will play an essential role in streamlining the efficiency of our product development lifecycle through the implementation and maintenance of Automation Systems. This position involves a blend of technical skills to enable the seamless operation of our laboratories.

You will maximize productivity and minimize downtime by guaranteeing these systems function optimally. Your expertise not only will contribute to the improvement of current operations, but also ensure the company remains competitive by development and integration of new technologies.

In this role you will focus on:

  • Maintaining the safe and smooth running of five laboratories at our facility in Rugby, each lab has a unique task from Remote monitoring, Drive simulation, Automation hardware, Automation software and Dynamic positioning.
  • Installing new automation systems and configuring hardware or software components as per the development team requirements.
  • Performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on automation equipment to reduce the risk of unexpected failures and ensure minimal downtime with optimal performance.
  • Collaborating with development teams to develop and implement system modifications or enhancements to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Documenting automation processes and maintaining detailed records of system configurations, modifications, and performance issues for future reference.
  • Training end-users and technical staff on the operation and maintenance of automation systems to ensure safe and effective use.
  • Driving continuous development by evaluating and integrating new technologies or upgrades into existing automation systems to enhance capabilities and performance.
  • Providing technical advice and assistance to the sales, commissioning, and service teams.

We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:

  • A recognized degree in an engineering field relevant to the role's requirements (or equivalent), or significant relevant experience gained in a professional engineering environment.
  • Experience in working with automation systems, demonstrating exposure to troubleshooting, maintenance, and system improvements.
  • Being able to configure, test, integrate, troubleshoot and deploy automation systems without the need of continuous supervision.
  • An understanding of control logic, along with the skills to interpret and modify electrical schematics and ladder diagrams.
  • An understanding of one or more industrial communication protocols, e.g. Modbus (RTU/TCP IP), OPC-UA, PRP, MRP, Profibus, Profinet, etc.

  • Good practicable experience of automation systems, networking, HMI's, PLC's.
  • Expertise in SCADA systems managing the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge/awareness of Operational Technology (OT) cyber security.
