Position Overview

The Shipper tickets drivers to customer orders utilizing electronic means to transmit delivery assignments. The shipper will compile statistics and reports on work progress and schedules and communicate with production and delivery personnel through chat software, phone, email and other means necessary to ensure accurate and on-time delivery service.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Monitors truck demand graph and order schedule to coordinate and ticket on-time delivery service requirements.
  • Confers with plant production and yard personnel on delivery schedules, truck capacities, delivery distance, project site access, unloading time and washout time.
  • Monitors Hours of Service and break requirements with Internal Scheduler to ensure DOT compliance when ticketing driver deliveries.
  • Prepares delivery tickets and related shipping notifications/documents and assigns drivers to scheduled deliveries.
  • Confers with Trucking Foremen, QC and other service personnel on issues effecting delivery schedules such as traffic problems, construction access, accidents, roadway congestion, weather conditions and other hazards.
  • Communicates with QC, Service and Production personnel on test loads required for quality compliance, special delivery requirements including the addition of fibermesh and other products added to delivery trucks.
  • Works with Telematics personnel on issues related to dispatch systems, communication systems and truck tracking systems.
  • Maintains active communication with foreman, production plant personnel and communicates issues of plant breakdowns and startups with all required personnel.
  • Handles all calls and other forms of communication in a courteous, professional and helpful manner.
  • Assists Customer Service Representative's with placing and receiving customer calls for new order delivery and order confirmation as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist with other projects as assigned.


Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • One to two years related experience and/or training.
  • Previous industry experience in concrete, building materials and/or road construction preferred.


Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as delivery tickets, safety rules and procedure manuals as well as carry out written or verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook preferred. Must be able to use the internet and computer software effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate basic mathematical skills as well as the ability to interpret and compute basic formulas.
  • Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
  • Willingness to work independently and within a team environment, assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, other employees, and customers.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person. Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and use hands and fingers to manipulate/handle objects.
  • Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and lift and/or move.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb or balance, lift, carry and hold materials, tools, and supplies crawl and crouch.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • The environment is typical of an office setting.
