Preferred Materials, Inc. is seeking a motivated Safety and Health Specialist to join our team. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting our asphalt production and construction line of business.
As a Safety and Health Specialist, you will work directly with field operations and leadership to promote a culture of safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and help protect our employees and communities. Safety & Compliance
- Conduct regular jobsite inspections, audits, and field observations across company operations.
- Partner with crews and supervisors to identify hazards and provide practical safety recommendations.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and company policies.
- Inspect equipment, machinery, and work areas to promote accident prevention and safe work practices.
- Verify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures.
- Evaluate workplaces for noise, atmospheric, lighting, and other occupational hazards using specialized monitoring equipment.
- Assist with accident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and incident documentation.
- Support workers' compensation processes in collaboration with Safety and HR leadership.
- Deliver safety training and toolbox talks for employees and field personnel.
- Demonstrate proper use of safety equipment and safe work practices.
- Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, communication, and proactive engagement.
- Help develop solutions that improve workplace safety and operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Compile safety performance metrics for management review.
- Assist with data entry, filing, tracking, and reporting activities.
- Prepare findings reports and recommend corrective actions to improve workplace safety.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- 1-2 years of construction, industrial safety, or related experience preferred.
- Current OSHA and/or MSHA certifications preferred, or willingness to obtain required certifications.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse teams.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable presenting information and facilitating employee training.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and adaptable to learning new technology platforms.
- Ability to review, interpret, summarize, and communicate regulatory and technical information.

- Willing and able to travel regularly to jobsites throughout Florida.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments, including weekly visits to construction sites, plants, and operational facilities.
- Ability to safely navigate active construction and industrial worksites.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, reach, bend, and conduct field inspections for extended periods as needed.
- Ability to operate a computer and complete administrative tasks.
