Director, Environmental Health and Safety

Yesterday Scranton, PA

Our Opportunity

At Chewy, it is our mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents and partners – vets and service providers – everywhere. Our success is measured by the happiness of the people and pets we serve, not simply by the amount of pet supplies we deliver. That’s why we continue to think of outside-the-Chewy-box ways to delight, surprise, and thank our loyal pet lovers!

We are seeking a  an experienced and strategic execution-focused Director, Environmental Health and Safety to lead the enterprise-wide strategy and delivery of environmental, health, safety, and high-risk operations programs across our Fulfillment and Rx Centers, Vet Care locations, and Corporate Hubs.

This leader will serve as the strategic driver for safety culture, environmental compliance, and regulatory integrity while enabling safe, sustainable growth across Chewy’s diverse operations network.

A strong candidate demonstrates proficiency in risk management, regulatory compliance, operational safety, and change management. This individual combines strategic vision and hands-on execution, with a proven ability to operationalize safety and risk programs that deliver measurable results at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs across Fulfillment Centers, Corporate Hubs, and Vet Clinics, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Define and implement Chewy’s enterprise EHS and High-Risk Operations (HRO) strategy, aligning initiatives across sites and functions to promote consistency, accountability, and measurable performance improvement.
  • Provide leadership for the HRO team, overseeing asset risk management, powered industrial truck programs, and other critical safety functions to ensure consistent standards across the network.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all applicable state and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee investigations and root-cause analysis of incidents, injuries, and near misses. Develop preventive actions, data-driven risk mitigation plans, and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce incident frequency and severity.
  • Direct environmental compliance programs including hazardous waste management, sustainability efforts, and regulatory permitting. Embed environmental responsibility into daily operations and long-term planning.
  • Establish and track critical metrics for EHS and HRO throughout the organization. Analyze trends, prepare executive summaries, and find opportunities for improvement through data insights.
  • Foster a culture of safety ownership, transparency, and accountability at all levels. Partner with site and functional leaders to embed safety into daily operations, training, and decision-making.
  • Oversee enterprise training programs related to EHS and HRO compliance, emergency response, and leadership development. Ensure teams are equipped to identify risks and respond effectively.
  • Build strong partnerships with Operations, HR, Legal, Risk, Facilities, and Engineering to align safety initiatives and ensure EHS and HRO considerations are integrated into business planning and execution.
  • Travel at least 40% required
