Job Purpose and Impact

The Government Relations Lead will guide and represent the company on legislative and regulatory affairs with elected officials, government officials and regulatory agencies. We are looking for a professional who will build and maintain relationships with Cargill's stakeholders in the Malaysian government, trade associations, industry coalitions, and other authorities to influence policies and positions, thus creating a favorable environment for Cargill's business in Malaysia. We also expect the Government Relations Head to support Corporate Responsibility programs and to support the Communications and Media Relations agenda in the country in order to build Cargill's image and reputation with the relevant government stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

    • Own the relationship with key government stakeholders.
    • Act as a resource on policy & regulatory matters with regards to government relations
    • Prepare and organize forums and gatherings with government officials to exchange ideas and information on business activities and potential legislation that may affect the business and the organization.
    • Ensure that the organization's interests are represented and protected in legislative proceedings and in the development of market rules and procedures.
    • Develop and maintain policies and programs to ensure awareness of government legislation and regulatory issues that affect the business and the organization.
    • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
    • Work closely with other corporate functions like Communications, Media Relations, Corporate Responsibility and Legal
    • Crisis management
    • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    • Bachelor's / Master's degree in a related field
    • Minimum of eight years of work experience in Corporate Affairs/ Policy advocacy/ Government Relations
    • Bahasa Malaysia and English communications skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    • Worked for an agriculture or food company in the country OR in the Food and Agriculture sector in the government
    • University degree (preferably in public affairs or international relations)
    • 8-12 years experience in Corporate Affairs/ Policy advocacy/Government Relations
    • Multinational company experience would be preferable
    • Worked within a complex organization
    • Led Government Relations activities in previous job
    • Strong understanding of Malaysian government, regulatory & licensing processes
    • Project planning and execution skills
    • Able to prioritize multiple tasks running concurrently OR Able to handle multiple priorities effectively.
