Role Overview
For the Global Indirect Tax Operational Compliance and Accounting team, we are looking for an enthusiastic Controller to participate in the operational global VAT and other Indirect Tax compliance operational compliance/accounting process and Indirect Tax implementation projects.
The role is a part of our Global Accounting organization. We are looking for someone with solid experience in indirect tax compliance and accounting with strong understanding of other functional Finance areas such as USGAAP, Statutory reporting, Financial Systems, Risk & Controls.
Booking is registered for indirect tax in many countries around the world and countries implement new indirect taxes/tax withholding requirements which might impact Booking operational compliance and accounting processes. In this role you will primarily be focused on managing Booking global VAT compliance processes in cooperation with other team members, members of our Centre of Excellence in India, EY and our Tax team. In addition, you will play an important role in implementation of VAT and other Indirect tax projects. Building an internal network and managing relations with our key stakeholder (Tax) is key to being successful in this role. Furthermore, key to success in this role is also broad S4Hana VAT experience and strong affinity with big data technology environments. You will be part of a dynamic organization of finance professionals and you will be working from our headquarters in Amsterdam.
Strong communication skills are essential. You will be keen to develop and grow within the role and challenge yourself to take on additional projects and responsibilities as they present themselves.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties -
- Managing global indirect tax compliance and related accounting
- Lead global indirect VAT compliance process
- Drive process standardization, automation and simplification of tasks
- Identify, follow-up, initiate and prioritize process improvements
- Liaise with Financial Controllers and Tax Managers on a day-to-day basis and align on priorities
- Partner with other key stakeholders/ departments
- Provide coaching and development for other team members
- Act as backup for senior controller as required
Role Qualifications and Requirements -
- University (Accounting, Business, Economic) degree and/or postgraduate education (RA/CPA)
- Approx. 5-7 years' experience in finance and/or accounting preferably within tax accounting and multinational corporate environment
- Sound knowledge of US GAAP
- Experienced in working in a team in an international company and matrix organization
- Track record in successfully representing finance in cross-functional projects
- Enthusiastic about improvement and innovation
- Adaptability and capability to lead and drive change
- High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly communication, organization and the ability to focus on achieving project deadlines
- Proven ability and the credibility to persuade and influence in effecting changes within an organization
- Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management
- Enthusiastic, proactive and driven
- Ambitious and inquisitive attitude
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Strong IT experience in financial systems, including SAP, is preferable
