We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Data Platform Engineer with 7 plus years of experience to design, implement, and optimize our data infrastructure. In this role, you will lead efforts to build scalable data architectures that power business insights while maintaining high performance and reliability standards.

Description

Identity Management Services (IdMS) provides mission critical authentication, authorization, customer profile, device identity, and trust services for Apple customers across macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS. IdMS is integrated with hundreds of Apple services including iCloud, iTunes, Retail, Online stores, and processes transactions at internet-scale. IdMS is also the centralized enterprise identity and access management platform for all applications serving Apple.

We are seeking a skilled computer engineer with passion for security engineering. We desire a self-motivated individual who can thrive in an Agile environment, while interacting and communicating effectively with other team members. This position requires extensive experience implementing advanced Computer Science paradigms and sound analytical ability.

Architect end-to-end data solutions that align with business requirements and technical constraints

Implement and optimize data queries for performance, scalability, and reliability

Build and maintain data platforms on cloud infrastructure (AWS/Google Cloud)

Lead the design and development of data insights frameworks and tools

Establish data engineering best practices and mentor junior team members

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven solutions

Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies into our data ecosystem

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Gemini AI, GitHub Copilot)

Knowledge of real-time data processing systems (Kafka, Kinesis)

Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

Familiarity with data governance and compliance requirements

Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.)

Understanding of data visualization tools and techniques

Experience with CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure

Education

BS / MS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

Minimum Qualifications

6 years of experience in software engineering with a focus on data platforms

Deep expertise in relational database systems (Oracle, PostgreSQL) including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning

Strong experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, etc.)

Proficiency in Python and data processing frameworks

Experience deploying and managing data platforms on AWS and/or Google Cloud

Strong understanding of data architecture principles and design patterns

Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools

Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on system optimization
