Mac Systems Power Delivery Architect

The Mac System Power Delivery Architecture team has an outstanding opportunity for a power systems architect to influence and drive new product designs. This is a multidisciplinary, cross-functional lead engineering role encompassing all aspects of computer system design. You will leverage your skills and experience to create innovative power delivery system architectures, surprise and delight our customers, and advance our products' performance, size, power, thermal, and cost objectives.

Description

Provide architectural guidance and leadership to cross-functional engineering teams in establishing new product definitions and requirements, with a primary focus on Power Delivery across Mac computer systems. This role requires subject matter expertise in power electronics, PMICs, and other DC-DC voltage regulators.

As a Mac Systems Power Delivery Architect, you will drive innovative power architecture and technology concepts, lead system-level partitioning and tradeoff analyses, and define mixed-signal power ICs, from initial investigation and analysis through to successful product-level implementation.

Responsibilities:

Lead core architecture and technology investigations by evaluating various options with technical rigor, optimizing key power metrics including but not limited to system performance, efficiency, power density, cost, reduced carbon footprint, and scalability.

Must be intimately familiar with DC-DC, DC-AC, and AC-DC voltage regulator topologies and architectures, magnetic design, PCB layout, and state-of-the-art techniques for integration and efficiency optimization.

Define requirements for PMICs (Power Management ICs) and collaborate with internal design teams and external vendors to deliver high-quality silicons on tight schedules.

Must possess knowledge of mixed-signal silicon processes, methodologies, design tools, verification tools, and back-end flows.

Provide design simulations, calculations, and analytical models to predict design concept outcomes, including control loop stability, transient responses, layout analysis, and parasitic extractions.

Perform and guide peak power measurements on device hardware to help validate power models.

Author system architecture specifications and block diagrams, and conduct reviews with product teams ; anticipate future SoC requirements and engage with internal SoC teams to align on system product goals.

Ensure a smooth handoff of new architectures to the execution team, including design analysis, risk assessments, mitigation plans, lessons learned, and proof-of-concept documentation.

This role may require occasional domestic and international travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in mixed-signal silicon and/or PMIC design.

Comprehends the roles of hardware, firmware, and software layers and understands how they interact within computer system design.

Proficient in reading schematics and PCB layouts and designs, with hands-on experience in board bring-up, system debug, and lab environments.

Experienced in circuit simulations, including behavioral, mixed-signal AMS, analog SPICE, and digital simulations.

Minimum Qualifications

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience.

Core competence and subject matter expertise in power electronics design and analysis for computing systems targeted for high-volume production.

Strong technical breadth across multiple computer or datacenter subsystem technologies, including CPU, GPU, storage, memory, power delivery, power management, networking, I/O, and thermal management.

Solid understanding of mixed-signal silicon processes, design methodologies, and tools.

Ability to create, review, and approve engineering requirement specification documents.

Strong analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively summarize and communicate complex technical issues and action items to key stakeholders and leadership teams.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
