I haven’t had a ton of luck with resume coaches on The Muse. Something to be aware of is many of the coaches, including Matthew, are “generalists.” The approach he wanted to use for my resume wasn’t one that worked particularly well for my field, Marketing. He is extremely open to feedback, patient and very easy to work with. I just don’t think he had the skill set to be able to help me, a director-level professional in marketing improve my resume. He relied on my knowledge and the way I had originally been communicating my work—which, ultimately, led to a similar resume as an output. While this isn’t related to Matthew specifically, I think it’s important to state: based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend The Muse’s coaching services to any of my contacts.

This was a mixed experience. Matt is a good communicator and responded well to feedback, and has a helpful framework for re-writing resume bullets. It would be helpful to have more contact with coaches up front before committing to this service so that clients know what they're paying for and what to realistically expect.
