9 Fall Trends to Try at Work

As office dwellers by day, fashion bloggers by night (and weekend), we understand the challenge of building a work wardrobe that’s equal parts professional and on-trend.

But luckily, this season’s shelves are stocked with gorgeous styles that are just as perfect for the office as they are for after hours. Here’s a rundown of our favorite trends for fall and easy ways you can make them work for the office.

1. The Midi Skirt

More feminine silhouettes are making a huge comeback this season, and one of our favorite styles for the workplace is the midi skirt. Balance out the longer length and volume of a midi skirt with a fitted top and a great pair of pumps—it’s perfect even for conservative offices.

2. The Modern Suit

Suits no longer have to be matchy-matchy. Mixing different fabrics, colors, and lengths is a great way to achieve a look that’s sophisticated enough for the office but fun enough to take you through to a night out. Try a solid blazer with printed trousers or a deep jewel-toned piece paired with black to keep this look fresh and office-appropriate.

3. Leather

Daytime leather is making a serious comeback! To try this trend at work, play up a cable knit sweater with a sleek leather skirt, try a leather jacket instead of a blazer, or wear a leather peplum top with classic pants. The key is sticking to one standout piece.

4. Printed Pants

We’ve long been fans of printed denim and are loving that prints have made their way to more office-friendly fabrics. Try Britt’s take with a fun geometric print, or, if you like a bit of a bolder print, the ponte check Whit wears is perfect. Keep your outfit polished with a solid-colored sweater or blouse and a simple pair of heels.

5. Peplum

Don't store away your peplum just yet: While this trend has been around for a while, it's definitely continuing into fall. And we’re thrilled! It's polished, feminine, and a great way to fake some curves.

6. Blue Hues

Varying shades of blue—from sky to cobalt—have been all over the runway recently. We love to incorporate this season’s it color into our office wear in the form of chic shirtdresses, fitted pants, or even just bright blue statement heels!

7. Black and White

Black and white outfits definitely top our list of favorite trends because they’re so easy to embrace! Stock up on solid black or white separates that you can mix and match all autumn long—the colors are timeless and will work well beyond this season.

8. The Statement Coat

Add a little flair to your outerwear with a bold-colored trench or an oversized coat. It’ll be a welcome change from the sea of black wool this season! Just be sure it’s a statement you’re comfortable wearing—or else it will never leave your closet.

9. Bold Accessories

We’re seeing standout accessories all over the runways this season. One of our favorite ways to wear the trend is with necklace layering—wearing two or three chains together is a great way to add some sparkle and glam up an outfit. Shy about wearing too much color? Start out slow with bold bag or clutch.
