Backend Architect

One of Zynga’s most exciting new IP projects is looking for an accomplished senior contributor.  We need a backend-focused architect to join us and work on challenging services problems at massive scale.  There is opportunity to grow towards being a tech lead responsible for an internet scale MMO backend infrastructure.


Design and implement major systems in internet-scale services with best in class uptime, resiliency, and responsiveness.

Work with engineering leadership to help mentor the development teams on architecture, process, and engineering results.

Evaluate and identify appropriate technology choices for our game and team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, performance-driven self-starter and team player.


Required Skills:

6+ years development experience.

Experience with client & server development & applications (“full stack” dev).

Experience with web service development, deployment, maintenance and associated technology.

Propensity to stay current with technology trends.

Ability to communicate with engineers and non-engineers effectively.

Ability to mentor engineers on technical ability, architecture, best practices – leading by example.

Ability to interview, train, and support junior developers.

BA/BS degree – CS/EE/Engineering degree.

Preferred skills include:

Shipping experience with Actor-based systems in internet scale environments (millions of DAU).

Experience with Akka in either Scala/Java form.

Experience with LAMP stack and common storage / scaling / monitoring tech (equivalent to membase/memcache, Nagios/splunk, SQL/noSQL, etc).
