Merchandising Solutions Program Manager

A year ago, Zappos took a bold step – we went back to being a premium retailer who foremost competes on service and selection rather than on price. From a merchandising perspective this means we have to take our processes around assortment planning, forecasting, in-season merchandising, marketing, and liquidation management to a new level. And we need you to help us with this!


What you’ll be doing:

  • Work with stakeholders across the company to put the operational muscle behind key initiatives required to execute Zappos’ business strategy
  • Your primary goal is to work with Zappos’ buyers, planners, merchandisers, and marketers to deploy strategic solutions and to provide feedback to the next wave of evolutionary enhancements
  • Design and implement solutions regarding decision models, processes, and systems
  • Provide perspective on proposed solutions and process changes, researching concerns and collaborating with solution lead to make adjustments that will improve the overall implementation success
  • Identify service level requirements in all steps of the process design and deployment
  • Create process documentation, user manuals and other rollout materials
  • Prioritize implementation steps based on change management strategy and plan
  • Create and gathers data and analysis to measure the adoption and buy-in of various initiatives
  • Triage ad hoc issues, manages ticket queue, user forums, open hours, etc. to address problems and enhancement opportunities in a timely fashion


What you’ll bring to the table:

  • BA/BS in a related field, such as: economics, mathematics, education, business administration
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a related function field (merchandising, planning, inventory management) is required
  • Exposure to, or previous experience in, orchestrating a major change in business strategy, relating to sales or marketing (including pricing) required
  • Comfortable with general project management principles and able to critique different approaches
  • Can identify strength and weaknesses of a given process in context of business strategy in at least one functional domain
  • Comfortable with conducting in depth research on process matters, without losing sight of the big picture and balancing the need to maintain forward momentum
  • Recognized for excellent communication skills and the ability to speak well in front of larger audiences
  • Facilitation skills and the ability to steer a diverse group of people towards a common goal are a plus

What you didn't know about the team:

  • We currently have a Gryffindor, a Slytherin, and a Hufflepuff on the team.  Not saying a Ravenclaw is required, but we can definitely see a pattern...
