JOB TITLE: Teacher – High School English (Intro to Rhetoric & Composition) – Gulfton (IMMEDIATE OPENING)

REPORTS TO: School Director

JOB GOAL: YES Prep teachers commit to ensuring that all students, regardless of zip-code attain an excellent education on the path toward college completion. The teacher shall consistently help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible citizens.


  • Teach approximately six periods, as directed by the School Director;
  • Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous lessons, according to students’ needs and the provided curriculum, where applicable;
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and organized learning environment;
  • Update gradebook on a weekly basis;
  • Inform students and families about students’ progress;
  • Implement school-wide student management policies within classroom and campus;
  • Actively participate in all teams and meetings, including grade level, content team, and other teams as designated by the campus;
  • Make parental contact by phone and/or conduct home visits when necessary;
  • Attend parent meetings and conferences;
  • Chaperone local and out-of-state field lessons, including but not limited to student Spring Trips;
  • Conduct morning, lunch, and afternoon duties during assigned times;
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner;
  • Additional duties as assigned


The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution

  • You hold a standard Texas teaching certification
  • You hold a valid teacher certification in another state
  • You are enrolled in a state-accredited Alternative Certification Program pursuing a certification
  • You are eligible for admission into Teaching Excellence Alternative Certification Program at YES Prep (Click here for eligibility requirements)

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours of duty
  • Some light manual labor

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws, local board policies, administrative guidelines, and the Texas Educators’ Code of Ethics;

  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice, with little to no direction;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with others.


Length of Work Year:

10-month position; evening and weekend commitments also will be required
