JOB TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist (IMMEDIATE OPENING)

REPORTS TO: Lead Speech-Language Pathologist

JOB GOAL: The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing direct and indirect speech services to YES Prep students, as well as evaluating and diagnosing students for initial and three year re-evaluations.

ILLUSTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide superior direct and indirect services to students with a speech impairment, in order to facilitate success in the least restrictive environment;
  • Develop a therapy schedule to fulfill service delivery times, as indicated in student IEPs;
  • Maintain a running roster of students receiving speech and language services, as well as students who are due for triennial re-evaluations.;
  • Maintain updated records reflecting student attendance and progress towards goals (e.g. tallying data);
  • Participate in all annual/triennial review Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARDs) for students identified as having a speech impairment (SI) for the purpose of updating annual speech IEP goals, objectives, and service delivery time;
  • Select and administer an appropriate battery of norm-referenced and/or informal measures during speech and language assessments that are specific to the individual needs of the student being evaluated;
  • Interpret test results to determine the student’s relative strengths and weaknesses;
  • Generate a computerized speech-language report that includes evidence-based recommendations to support speech and/or language deficits;
  • Present speech-language report at the ARD for students identified, evaluated and served on each assigned campus;
  • Develop speech therapy goals and objectives used to implement services into an electronic IEP system;
  • Develop therapeutic activities and tasks to meet the individual needs and interests of each student;
  • Complete all necessary compliance documentation associated with the assessment process;
  • Maintain and apply a working knowledge of current local, state, and federal guidelines related to providing services to students with speech disabilities;
  • Update speech and language progress notes for distribution to parents at the end of each six week grading cycle;
  • Participate as needed in assisting campus teams with the Response to Intervention process;
  • Refer, as appropriate, students for additional specialized assessment when needed (e.g. bilingual assessment, AAC or AT evaluation, occupational therapy, physical therapy);
  • Collaborate with school administrators, classroom teachers, parents and learning lab specialists to communicate speech therapy procedures, progress and opportunities for generalization beyond the therapy setting;
  • Attend staff development in-services and workshops to enhance professional skills;
  • Explore professional development opportunities that sustain ongoing learning and refinement of skills;
  • Consult with various administrative and instructional teams to foster educational excellence and rigor for students with disabilities;
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college or university
  • American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certification and Licensure, and Texas State Certification and licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist

Experience:

  • Two years of related experience, preferred; clinical fellows are encouraged to apply

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:

Length of Work Year:

10-month exempt position; evening and weekend commitments also will be required
