REPORTS TO: Head of Schools

LOCATION: Home Office

Job Goal: The Managing Director of College and Career Initiatives will lead the Home Office and campus-based College Initiatives teams to support students in grades 6-12, in the transition to college, and to college completion.

ILLUSTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Drive a college initiatives vision and strategy that ensures YES Prep is achieving ambitious goals related to alumni success;
  • Analyze key data sources to identify priority areas of organization priorities related to student/alumni persistence, invest stakeholders in strategies, monitor progress towards identified metrics (both campus-based and district-wide), and adjust strategies towards goal attainment;
  • Create and execute a plan that focuses team and collaborator attention and actions on our rallying cry, ambitious goals, and key resources;
  • Work closely with the college initiatives team to coordinate focus areas and actions so that as a system our matriculation, persistence, and graduation data moves in a positive direction in all identified measures;
  • Provide timely and effective resources, tools and knowledge that supports district-wide, as well as campuses’ college initiatives team member and ultimately leads to stronger outcomes in college applications, matriculations and completion;
  • Work collaboratively and closely with the senior leadership team to ensure desired results on campuses; ensure consistent communication, plan strategically for interactions, and effectively share projects/ initiatives.
  • Be an internally-facing leader of YES Prep; work collaboratively with senior leadership, school leaders and other teams in the home office to better ensure that we achieve goals and deliver results;
  • Manage all members of the Home Office college initiatives team, including select specialized stipend positions;
  • Manage and work effectively in a team environment that develops growth in performance through consistent coaching and management strategies;
  • Create and foster developmental opportunities for team members to grow and become district-wide leaders and effective sources of support and information;
  • Collaborate closely with math and English content directors in order to plan, implement, and evaluate a high-quality and effective SAT/ACT prep program, including test preparation, registration, analysis of results and individualized student remediation;
  • Continue to foster existing partnerships, as well as seek new opportunities and partnerships to YES Prep that benefit our students, alumni, and staff members, specifically focused on issues of college access, persistence, and completion;
  • Represent the YES Prep program externally in ways that cement both our action and thought leadership;
  • Work closely with campus school directors and directors of college counseling as it relates to the hiring and management of campus college initiatives team members and the implementation of the college initiatives program;
  • Provide support to campuses and the YES Prep Talent Acquisition team as it relates to the recruitment, screening, hiring and onboarding of campus directors of college counseling, college counselors and seminar teachers;
  • Work closely with college initiatives team and campus leaders to plan, implement and support large-scale and district-wide programming, including Annual District College Fair, Senior Signing Day, commencements, alumni conferences and gatherings, and fall/spring trips (and enlist senior leadership support as needed);
  • Work closely with Advancement team to manage all secured grant commitments and requirements for the identified college initiatives team programs, ensuring compliance to reporting and data needs;
  • Serve as a senior leader and actively contribute to all aspects of the organizational planning and collective success;
  • Complete additional projects and areas as determined by the CEO (based on expertise and knowledge base of specific subject areas);
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

  • Conduct self in a professional manner at all times;
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice, with little to no direction;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Master’s Degree, preferred

Experience

  • 7 to 9 years of experience
  • Previous experience in either the high school counseling and/or college admissions field, as well as managerial and/or supervisory experience in this capacity, required.

Skills and Mindsets

  • Proficiency with all MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Possess strong analytical and communication skills
  • Fluency in Spanish, preferred, but not required
  • An ability to work well with students, their families and the entire YES staff

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:

Length of Work Year:

12 month position; evening and weekend commitments also will be required

Domestic Travel:

20-25% (including, but not limited to, participation in national and state conferences, session presentations, IMPACT Partner/Affiliate site visits and cultivation meetings, other external partnership requests)
