Software Engineer - Web (Biz Activity Team)

Our Hamburg office is located in the heart of the city and brings with it the unique advantages of booming international teams, all of whom share the same floor and are brought together by the same goal: empowering Yelp’s business products.

The Biz Activity team's primary focus is to provide business owners with the tools they need to manage their magnificent presence on Yelp. We keep them informed of consumer activities on their business page and help them stay on top of their customers’ needs, equipping them with simple tools to create meaningful content and enhance the Yelp experience for everyone. You’ll be working on an agile team, side by side with mobile engineers, to make complex features available through clean and intuitive interfaces. And if you're not familiar with a particular technology yet, don’t worry, we’ll help you get there!

What You Will Do:

  • Design and build new features for our website and mobile apps
  • Act as a full-stack engineer with expertise in more than one area, e.g., work on the mobile apps' backend for one project and focus on the web frontend the next
  • Deploy projects in a Service-Oriented Infrastructure
  • Work closely with product managers and designers
  • Run experiments and analyze the resulting data
  • Lead cross-platform projects
  • Investigate new technologies and share improvement proposals with the team

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong understanding of at least one popular server-side MVC framework (Django, Twisted, Rails, Pyramid, CodeIgniter, Play, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS/Sass
  • Comfortable working in a Linux environment
  • Experience with backend/frontend performance analysis
  • Understanding of web security best practices
  • Belief in well-tested code
  • Interest in mentoring interns or newly-graduated engineers
  • Desire to learn, share your knowledge, and always improve your engineer-self
