Yelp is looking for a great lawyer to join its small but fabulous legal team.
This is a mid-level role (4-6 years’ experience) for someone with a solid public company securities background who is also interested in commercial contracts, the occasional M&A opportunity, and the countless other unexpected issues that arise day-to-day in an in-house legal department.
The best candidates play a prominent and proactive role in their work. They take a position where other lawyers might equivocate. They love the challenge and geek out about their work. They have a keen sense how they can apply their knowledge and experience to Yelp, but are ready, willing, and able to tackle unfamiliar work.
- Top law school; big firm background
- Core focus on public company securities
- Meaningful exposure or expertise in tech transactions and/or M&A
- Consumer internet experience is a plus
- Excellent legal and business judgment; ability to think creatively about unique issues
- Rigorous devotion to detail and organization
Although Yelp has grown substantially from its early days, the company prides itself on maintaining a startup culture and feel. We’re looking for someone with an impressive legal background who shares our commitment to providing innovative legal solutions.
You don’t need to rehash your resume in your cover letter, but you do need to draw a direct connection between your work experience and the specific needs we’ve outlined above. Also, we’d like you to use a paragraph or two in your cover letter to comment on a relevant legal topic of your choice, like the governance considerations behind a major venture investor suing a founder for taking too many board seats.
Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
