Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist

Responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients (inpatient and/or outpatient) with speech, language, communicative, or swallowing disorders in a variety of patient care areas. Performs other clinical, teaching, and administrative duties as may be required.

Responsibilities

  1. CLINICAL
    • 1.1 Able to interpret physician referrals recognizing skill level required to perform clinical evaluations of varying diagnoses.
  2. EDUCATIONAL
    • 2.1 Attends department in-services, as appropriate, and takes advantage of outside educational opportunities.
  3. ADMINISTRATIVE
    • 3.1 Complies with Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures, interprets the same for other staff, and makes recommendations for change.
  4. CLINICAL SUPERVISION
    • 4.1 Participates in weekly (or as deemed appropriate) meetings with supervisor and reports pertinent information on a timely basis.
  5. HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS
    • 5.1 Demonstrates respect and regard for dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsive and courteous hospital environment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology; Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology.

EXPERIENCE

Three years as a clinical speech-language pathologist, in a large medical center based practice with the most recent year at YNHH. Experience must be relevant to the position. Exceptions to this requirement may only be made with a manager's recommendation and Department Head approval.

LICENSURE

Must maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a Speech - Language Pathologist in CT.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Experience with FEES, MBS and TEP preferred. Excellent interpersonal, clinical, and organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Requires exposure to blood and body fluids, hazardous materials and communicable diseases. Requires long periods of standing and walking. Requires lifting and positioning of patients.
