JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for planning and executing a developmentally appropriate program for a mixed age group of infants and toddlers, or preschool aged children. Reports to Child Care Manager

Responsibilities

  • 1. Plans, coordinates and implements a program to meet the physical, emotional, social and educational needs of a family grouping of children aged three (3) months to thirty-six (36) months, or three (3) years to five (5) years in accordance with Center policy, CT Office of Early Childhood Education and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Standards and Code of Ethics.
  • 2. Provides guidance to staff to ensure an integrated, harmonious environment for the children and their families.
  • 3. Facilitates close contacts between staff and parents for daily communication about child and Center as well as on-going written reports. Responsible for conducting parent conferences at least twice annually. Must attend parent meetings and other center functions when possible.
  • 4. Participates in the training of volunteers, interns, fellows and students in field placements.
  • 5. Maintains written daily records, weekly curriculum plans and provides regular and ongoing feedback to parents, other staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • 6. Participates regularly in staff and professional projects and meetings and departmental events. Attends a minimum of twenty - one (21) hours early childhood workshops per year.
  • 7. Maintains complete awareness of all children's needs and responds in an effective, timely, and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • 8. Observes, supervises groups of children throughout the day and communicates appropriate information to supervisors, children, parents, and co-workers.
  • 9. Responsible for maintaining health and safety standards in the program in accordance with Hospital Infection Control, CT State Licensing Regulations, NAEYC Accreditation standards and CT ELDS. Responsible for creating a safe classroom environment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent as stated by State of CT Office of Early Childhood. Master's Degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in the teaching and care of very young children, or equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

 

LICENSURE

 

ECTC or equivalent as defined by the OEC

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of principles of child development and child behavior. First aid, CPR, medication administration training preferred. Knowledge of CT Early Learning and Development Standards, Basic IT skills.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Ability to climb up and down stairs, and move from a seated position on the floor to an upright stance. Able to lift 45 lbs.
