ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER

As a clinician, the APRN provides comprehensive physical evaluation and management of patients in collaboration with medical, nursing, and social work staff on the Geriatric Service. As an educator, the APRN acts as a clinical expert, teacher, and resource to patients, families, and hospital staff. The APRN is also responsible for a variety of administrative duties related to the efficient operations of services. The APRN reports to, and collaborates with, the SRC Medical Director of Geriatric Services in order to provide comprehensive geriatric care and on-call coverage as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Clinical Practice:
    • 1.1 Uses advanced knowledge, skill, and expertise to provide clinical consultation, evaluation, and management services to Geriatric patients
  • 2. Geriatric Service
    • 2.1 Uses advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise to provide clinical services to geriatric patients who are admitted to the inpatient geriatric service, outpatient geriatric primary care clinic or skilled nursing facility
  • 3. Educational:
    • 3.1 Provides patient and family education
  • 4. Administrative:
    • 4.1 Participates in the formulation of policies and procedures as they relate to geriatric medicine

Qualifications

EDUCATION


MSN required. Graduate of Nurse Practitioner Program. Current Connecticut APRN license (or eligible). Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.


EXPERIENCE


Minimum of one-year experience as geriatric or medical-surgical APRN.

SPECIAL SKILLS


Excellent knowledge, clinical skills and judgment. Possesses analytical skills to evaluate care needs, has ability to gather relevant clinical data, performs thorough physical and psycho-social status examinations; possesses excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and leadership abilities; and exhibits good judgment and tact working with patients, families, and allied health professionals. Computer skills preferred.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


MMR is required. Varivax (chicken pox vaccine) or evidence of prior chicken pox is required. Hepatitis B (or signed declination) is required for those with potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
Tdap and influenza vaccination are strongly encouraged.
No special conditions.
