National Service Officer - New York, NY

Job Summary

Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) National Service Officer will manage all VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) claims obtained in the field.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide representation to veterans/families before the VA
  • Work within DOD, VBA, and VHA offices to ensure timely and professional care of warriors
  • Develop and maintain relationships with related health care and social service providers
  • Remain current with all VA and DOD laws, regulations, and benefits
  • Plan, organize, and conduct benefit educational seminars
  • Maintain and update WWP intranet electronic tracking systems
  • Develop community support and to speak on behalf of WWP
  • Assist in all grassroots efforts and support specific campaigns as needed
  • Develop relationships that will foster and engage warriors and caregivers with WWP programs
  • Maintain yearly VA laws and regulations certification
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge and experience involving all DOD programs and VA laws and regulations
  • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, positive, outgoing, personable, and able to relate well with diverse populations and age groups
  • Ability to timely complete required assignments
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work well under pressure
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast paced environment
  • Organized, diligent, and able to troubleshoot, problem-solve and prioritize
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a highly developed attention to detail
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Some travel required

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) year of experience as a veterans benefits advocate required
  • In lieu of advocate experience, Juris Doctorate will be considered (no practicing experience necessary)
