The Manager, Merchant Communications & Compliance provides strategic leadership and direction for WEX and our industry partners in the fuel payments space. The Manager develops pricing and compliance strategies and related communications processes, ensures adequate delivery and systems support within the fleet organization and communicates relevant opportunities and requirements to our merchant community. This role liaises between merchants and technical support, product development, sales and field service to identify opportunities for merchants to enhance pricing for our joint fleet customers, reduce costs for WEX and our partners and add value for our joint customers/clients.
Data security is a high priority for WEX. Our interactions with merchants must address not only skimming fraud, but also adapt to keep pace with industry and technology evolution. In order to meet these expectations, the Manager, Merchant Communications and Compliance must work with our merchant community to protect WEX card data, hold merchants accountable when they do not meet their obligations and reduce WEX's fraud liability via chargebacks to merchants and other means.
The Manager must also assist WEX in adapting to keep pace with industry and technology evolution. We envision a scalable merchant communications platform where contracts are:
easily accessed both by WEX employees and merchants
can be updated digitally
This position contributes to WEX's profitability by maximizing our efforts to control fraud, and efficiently administering the Merchant Contract Standardization process and the Merchant-funded Discount Network.
Owns Merchant Compliance Policy and all related merchant communications, including:
Excessive Fraud Chargeback Policy
WEX Spec Compliance Policy (EMV/Chip, etc.)
Other merchant requirements
Organizes cross-functional team and liaisons with the following parties as described:
Product & Merchant Operations: execute process for merchant fraud chargebacks and non-compliance pricing adjustments
Fraud Services & Data Sciences: identify problem sites and size fraud dollars
Technology: define requirements for Merchant Communications Platform & sponsor build
Legal: migrate all merchant contracts to Merchant Communications Platform and managing updates on ongoing basis
Develops merchant and retail pricing data streams and leads the creation of Merchant Analytics as a tool to inform WEX pricing strategies.
Minimum Required Qualifications for Consideration
Bachelor's degree with 12 years of related experience in the financial services industry or similar compliance/communications role
Ability to function in a complex environment via multi-tasking, prioritization and communication
Ability to communicate with all levels of organization and accomplish objectives via influence
Uses professionalism and company objectives to resolve complex issues creatively & effectively
Strong listening and collaboration skills, strategic thinker, technologically savvy
Successfully pass a background investigation
MBA, similar graduate degree or business/technology consulting experience
Experience managing merchant relationships on behalf of a network, bank or acquirer
Prior work experience in fleet cards space
