General Purpose:

The Data Architect will serve as a subject matter expert and perform tasks that contribute to the conceptual and physical model of the North American fleet card line of business. Daily activities include assisting the lead data architect in revising conceptual, logical, and physical data models; creating data models that conform to existing standards and conventions; providing leadership and guidance with existing and emerging enterprise data strategies; revising data dictionary definitions, governance practices, and standards; and ensuring compliance with data security and privacy mandates. Additional responsibilities include end-to end data lifecycle management activities, and ensuring consistency between data management and all other technical system components. This role encompasses all aspects of data management, conceptual, logical, and physical. The candidate will also be responsible for performance tuning as it relates to the data model, the corresponding SQL, and how it performs during data processing.

The candidate will have a thirst to understand the North American fleet card business and how best to model the business in the corresponding relational database(s). You must be passionate about digesting business requirements and translating them into relational designs that will be adaptable and stand the test of time. You will aim to improve existing designs as the business adapts to market conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the lead data architect in revising conceptual, logical, and physical data models
  • Partnering with software engineers for data model changes needed for new features and capabilities
  • Creating data models that conform to existing standards and conventions
  • Providing guidance with existing and emerging enterprise data strategies
  • Revising data dictionary definitions, governance practices, and standards
  • Ensuring compliance with data security and privacy mandates
  • Perform end-to-end data lifecycle management activities, including data archival and removal
  • Performance tuning of SQL, PL/SQL, and ETL development
  • Ensuring consistency and quality of data between technical system components
  • Document implementation procedures for execution by Production DBAs

Minimum Required Qualifications for Consideration:

  • BS in Computer Science or a closely-related related field
  • 4-6 years of experience as a Data Architect with demonstrated expertise in enterprise data management and related technologies
  • Advanced SQL, PL/SQL and Oracle knowledge
  • Experience with Embarcadero ER/Studio or a comparable data modeling tool
  • Understanding of information systems and data life-cycle management best practices and methodologies
  • Experience with data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, and SQL
  • Experience working as a member of distributed data architecture teams
  • Knowledge of configuration management and version control processes
  • Good communication skills and stakeholder relationship skills
  • Strong problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Agile development methodology and concepts
  • Embarcadero ER/Studio
  • Oracle SQL Developer
  • Liquibase or an equivalent DDL version control sub-system
  • Experience with Hadoop, Cloudera, Cassandra is a plus
  • Must be able to work in a high pressure, time sensitive environments
  • Must be able to quickly identify and weigh options and implement high-quality solutions
  • Must be able to align WEX strategic direction with the tactical execution of projects
  • The position will be required to identify and evaluate options quickly when problems or issues arise and then drive to resolution
