General Purpose:

The Accountant I position is responsible for ensuring accounting transactions are recorded correctly. This position applies the principles, concepts, and practices of general accounting. Maintains and prepares general ledger and sub-ledger financial transactions. Examines and interprets general financial transactions for accuracy, reasonableness, and proper accounting treatment. May specialize in one functional area of accounting. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is representative of duties that may be assigned. It is expected that an individual in this position have the skills and knowledge to assume any combination.

  • Maintains corporate accounting sub-ledger and ensures accurate records, proper accounting treatment and reporting. Exercises limited accounting control and financial treatment over a group of accounts within a given specialized area. Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Performs the daily and/or weekly reconciliation of cash accounts and accounts receivable sub-ledgers to the general ledger. Researches and resolves differences.
  • Participate in monthly closing processes, with full understanding of all key journal entries.
  • Assists with annual external audit. Completes requested materials. Assists in preparing assigned schedules for the annual and interim audit.
  • Maintains list of journal entries and reconciliations and ensures that all are accounted for and have proper approvals.
  • Prepares all month end journal entries and reconciliations for submission to 3rd party imaging vendor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Proficiency in the use of relevant software applications, databases, and spreadsheets required.
  • A knowledge of accounting and the ability to analyze accounting transactions. Individual must be a motivated self-starter who possesses effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to thrive in a deadline-oriented environment with proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Individual must have exceptional attention to detail and accuracy and ability to build relationships and manage conflict.
