Provides direction and/or reviews/evaluates new rail car specification requirements and for upgrade or modification programs on existing fleet assets. Ensures equipment is in compliance with USA DOT and Transport Canada regulations. Ensures activities are carried out in compliance with Association of American Railroads Interchange Rules and Recommended Practices and internal company policies and procedures. Performs inspections of new and existing rail car assets, evaluates quality of construction or repairs performed and directs specific processes or procedures for repair and maintenance. Creates maintenance instruction documents that detail repair work to be performed by third party shops. Develops improvements to instruction documents that detail repair work to be performed by third-party shops on existing equipment to meet new lessee requirements. Provides input into rail car repair and maintenance policies and practices to preserve and enhance asset values. Represents and promotes company standards at AAR Committee meetings and other industry meetings/functions. Evaluates rail car designs and develops rail car modification programs as required. Assists in studies and evaluations of rail car and rail car component performance. Maintains internal files of rail car condition reports and component performance.

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: rail car repair, rail car construction, or leasing experience

Desired Qualifications

  • BS or higher in mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of rail equipment construction and design or rail equipment repair methods and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of Association of American Railroads (AAR) Interchange Rules
  • Thorough knowledge of Association of American Railroads (AAR) Manual of Standards and Recommended Practices
  • Quality assurance experience

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Strong customer service orientation
  • A thorough knowledge of D.O.T. regulations
  • 4-year college degree in related field of study/MBA or other relevant post-graduate degree preferred
  • Managing the warranty process

Job Expectations
