Release Manager for IT Service Management Technology (BSC4)

Job Description

ITSM Technology Team, within Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) is searching for a Release Manager to support the PAC2000 and Technology Connection Application Support teams.

Position requires a leader who can plan and manage SDLC (Systems Development Life Cycle) activities and oversee implementation of critical production fixes, as well as, scheduled enhancement releases.

The selected Team member will work very closely with the EACO, Technology Connection and other technology teams to collaborate on successful solutions for their business needs, create application release schedules, coordinate implementation events and oversee technical tasks. The key responsibilities include:

  • Act as a liaison between the client area and technical organization by planning, conducting and completing an analysis of moderately complex business problems to be solved with automated systems.
  • Provide technical assistance in identifying and evaluating automated systems and related procedures that are cost effective and meet business requirements.
  • Works with user groups to provide training, resolve questions, assess user needs and recommend changes to the automated systems.
  • Managing critical production issues requires analyzing each issue to ensure it truly is a critical production issue. This involves interaction with customers, application ownership (business partners) and development staff. Additionally, if determined that it is a critical production issue, determining the appropriate timeframe for the implementation of the fix (immediate or next scheduled release).
  • Management of scheduled enhancement releases involves the following: 1.) Scoping the release for the proper number and blend of enhancement requests, 2.) Ensuring Business Requirements Documents (BRD’s) are created and approved by all appropriate parties, 3.) Validating that Functional Design Documents (FDD’s) are completed and approved by all appropriate parties, 4.) Oversee to ensure completion of the development, QA, UAT and implementation efforts, 5.) Developing and maintaining the project plan for all releases, 6.) Provide the “communications vehicle” to provide information about each release (schedule and/or attend meetings with appropriate groups to provide updates on content and/or status, post info to sites, distribute mass e-mails, etc.), 7.) Perform “Post Implementation” activities: a.) Monitor for any post-production issues, b.) update project plan as activities are completed.

Must possess strong communications skills and be able to understand customer needs and influence the results.

This person must be able to gain credibility with business partners, team members and development resources.

This individual must possess a heightened sense of urgency and resolve, capable of working in a production oriented environment and the ability to assess and minimize/mitigate risks and overcome challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of business systems analysis experience, business systems design experience, or a combination of both
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • 5+ years of SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • 3+ years of 3rd party vendor application production support experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology software: release management
  • Customer relationship management experience
  • Ability to develop and manage business relationships
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A BS/BA degree or higher in information technology

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and work experience with IT Service Management technologies.
  • Individual who is a “self-starter”. Possesses the ability to work independently, but knowledgeable regarding when to escalate important issues/decisions.
