The Inbound Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire warehouse receiving operation. He/She should have extensive knowledge of the various receiving procedures and protocols while developing new techniques to increase overall efficiency. The Inbound Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring all new employees receive proper training and current employees who need retraining are given adequate instruction.

The Inbound Operations Manager will be responsible for monitoring the daily, weekly, and monthly metrics for all of their departments; He/She will ensure all consequences of failing to meet the expectations are enforced. Consequentially, the Inbound Operations Manager will be in charge of maintenance hiring for the various departments to ensure all metrics can and will be met, to possibly include opening shift change bids.

Furthermore, the Inbound Operations Manager will lead weekly and monthly manager meetings to relay all information passed down from the Warehouse Operations Manager. These meetings will provide an overview of current metric standings, areas of improvement, personnel issues, and updates on quarterly initiatives. These quarterly tasks will be chosen by department managers from a list of specific directives that must have quantifiable data to back improvement.

The Inbound Operations Manager will be expected to work, at minimum, one full day per month with each department/shift. As needed, he/she will fill the role of an absent Manager due to illness, vacation, or other obligation not allowing a manager to be present at work. In the absence of the Warehouse Operations Manager, the Inbounds Operations Manager and Outbound Operations Manager will assume all duties and responsibilities assigned to the Warehouse Operations Manager.

The job duties of the Inbound Operations Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly metrics
  • Handling any personnel issues
  • Communicating with department managers regularly and ensuring they have all they need to perform and meet their goals
  • Enforce all safety procedures
  • Actively engage in MBWA (Managing By Wandering Around) and acting out our company culture
  • Working with employees of all levels to ensure job performance is up to standard and they are engaged/motivated
  • Maintain proper employment levels to ensure metrics will be met
  • Delegate Quarterly initiatives and monitor progress
  • Conduct weekly and monthly manager meetings
  • Develop continuous procedural improvements
  • Fulfill the role of a Manager when needed
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Operations Manager, assume all of his/her duties for the prescribed amount of time

In addition, the Inbound Operations Manager must ensure the following basic parameters (will be edited) are met at all times by the appropriate department:

  • Receiving:
  • Everything (including new items) received during 1st shift is put back into stock same day/shift
  • Inventory:
  • ~ +- $2,500 each accounting period
  • Keep WH damages below ___ % of adjustments
  • 4 FT cycle counters following row cycle count schedule
  • Returns/Wrap:
  • All ground/common returns are completed same day received (2pm cut off)
  • All outlet items are listed within 1 business day of receipt and the progressive decrease in pricing is followed to quickly turn inventory
  • All wrap items are up to date each day
  • Facilities Maintenance
  • Warehouse is following defined preventative maintenance schedule
  • Warehouse is following defined cleaning schedule
  • This includes ground level and bin level (Each week entire ground and bin level rows are completely cleaned in full – hanging down shrink film, empty pallets, cluttered bins, etc.)
  • Maintenance requests
  • All requests are sent into a report that has dates, time stamps, priority level, description, and sender info
  • All trends are identified and solutions found to lower future requests
  • All low priority requests are completed within 1-2 business days
  • All high priority requests are completed within 1-2 hours
  • All forklifts are following preventative maintenance schedule
  • All batteries are appropriately equalized/watered per defined schedule
  • Industrial Truck Training
  • Ensure all personnel are trained appropriately on all levels of equipment
  • All personnel's records of training are adequately stored immediately upon completion of any of the training steps
