Equipment Engineer I

Total Salary Range: $66,810-$82,530

All Applicants must comply with ITAR Requirements. US Citizens or Permanent Residents only

The Equipment Engineer is responsible in the areas of equipment engineering, supporting analysis of machinery and systems; preventive, reliability focused maintenance. The Equipment Engineer effectively applies engineering technology to analyze equipment and when appropriate increased equipment life through design changes and setting standards for new equipment. The incumbent reports to the Equipment Engineering Manager and is responsible for exercising judgment based on level noted below. The Equipment Engineer Level I will need to focus on one specialization of the below.

As a key member of Weber Metals your duties include but are not limited to:
• Demonstrate importance of the Weber Metals Safety Policy to the success of Weber Metals.
• Demonstrate importance of the Weber Metals Quality Policy to the success of Weber Metals.
• Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the Weber Metals Environmental Policy.
• Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the Weber Metals Business Management System.
• Participate in team related activities (departmental & global), as well as ISO Auditing as requested.
• Supportive role to ensure or exceed compliance in all environmental, safety and security areas
• Work in a team environment and meet target dates, report to work on time, with the proper PPE, and be fully engaged for the entire shift.
• Supportive role in annual shutdowns for plant maintenance which may include working during weekends and holidays
• Participate in the interviewing process for future candidates

Major Job Duties:
Equipment Engineering Core:
• Assist with monitoring, evaluating & improving equipment performance
• Assist with generating and presenting technical reports to management
• Assist with generating equipment recommendations to improve manufacturing processes
• Assist with technical expertise to mechanic technicians and plant engineers on new projects
• Assist with developing and updating equipment standards for existing and future equipment
• Investigates root cause to chronic equipment failures and recommend cost effective solutions
• Assist with reviewing equipment drawings for the purpose of minimizing equipment failure, efficiency improvement and equipment implementation
• Assist with conducting engineering investigations for the Factory Planning group
• Assist with providing recommendations and solutions of analysis and repairs strategy and direction
• Assist with upkeep with current industry trends and latest technologies
• Assist with generating schematics and drawings as required
• Assist with providing technical expertise for troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment problems
• Assist with generating and maintaining equipment risk assessments
• Assist with keeping up to codes and standard for equipment; NEC, UL, NEMA, …
• Assist with providing training, coaching, overseeing along with leading and mentoring staff

I. Hydraulic Engineering Specialization:
• Assist with generating hydraulic schematics as required
• Assist with developing safe practices for working on hydraulic pressures up to 9,000 psi
• Assist with ensuring equipment is running at optimum performance
• Assist with developing the Oil Analysis program
• Assist with constantly improving hydraulic preventive maintenance program
• Assist with main safety pressure relief valves settings and controls to safe guard the equipment
• Assist with developing benchmark standard for all hydraulic equipment (Speeds, pressures and controls )
• Assist with hydraulic design changes for process improvements
• Assist with outside vendor management for improvement projects
• Assist with the fine adjustments to variable displacement pumps
• Assist with developing hydraulic life expectancy requirements from current equipment analysis and condition

Hydraulic Engineering Specialization Skills:
• Read and understand hydraulics schematics
• Knowledge of Troubleshooting hydraulic systems and Servo/Proportional Valve controls
• Preferred knowledge of hydraulic and mechanical system

II. Furnace Engineering Specialization:
• Assist with generating oxy-fuel combustion standards for burners (Direct Flame and Indirect Flame)
• Assist with generating modulating gas burner adjustment parameters to optimize gas burner efficiency
• Assist with developing Temperature Uniformity Survey requirements
• Assist with implementing the NFPA 86: Standards for Ovens and Furnaces
• Assist with developing furnace data monitoring systems
• Assist with developing an insulation life expectancy for replacement
• Assist with defining best standard practices for insulation installation
• Assist with analyzing and selecting best refractory material replacement
• Assist with developing replacement refractory door jamb on high temperature furnaces
• Assist with mechanical system improvements
• Assist with long term analysis for mechanical systems
• Assist with coordination and integration of safety requirements on furnaces

Furnace Engineering Specialization Skills:
• Understand combustion system theory and optimization
• Understanding of gas boiler theory
• NADCAP Knowledge
• Understands PLC Siemens and Allen Bradley programming logic
• NFPA 86: Standards for Oven and Furnaces

III. Software & Hardware - PLC Engineering Specialization:
• Assist with continues improvements to new industry standards
• with generating and maintaining the PLC programs for equipment
• Assist with programing HMI's on multiple projects as required
• Assist with generating and maintaining PLE and PLC platforms
• with developing control system optimization on existing equipment
• Assist with implementing and maintaining network solutions for equipment monitoring

Software & Hardware - PLC Engineering Specialization Skills:
• Programs in PLC programming language (STL, Ladder, Function Block Diagram)
• Understand Siemens TIA portal and Allen Bradley PLC (RS Logic 500, RS Logic 5000, Panel View, Factory Talk
• Proficient in VFD drive programming in different platforms
• Supervisory control and data acquisition software (SCADA)

FOCUS AREAS:
I. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Specialization
• Assist with developing simulation for proper stress analysis
• Assist with developing and driving FEA research projects related to predictive engineering
• with performing necessary linear/non-linear static analysis and dynamic simulations
• Assist with generating modeling of mechanism for kinematic, dynamic and force analysis to provide recommendations
• Assist with reviewing outsourced FEA results as required when local resources cannot meet demand
• Assist with translating an actual problem/failure to FEA model, interpret analysis results and recommend best option
• Assist with troubleshoots modeling/convergence issues in a timely manner

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Specialization Skills:
• Factory Design Suite (Product Design & Manufacturing Collection)
• Inventor 3D
• Autocad 2D
• Vault
• Fusion 360
• Attention to detail
• Knowledge of advanced FEA skills like transient, fatigue and non-linear analysis
• Knowledge & understanding of mechanical schematics and systems

II. Equipment Risk Assessment Specialization
• Assist with generating an annual equipment risk assessment that drives improvements and prioritization
• Assist with all compliance efforts to support agency and insurance requirements
• Assist with applying root cause failure analysis for the factory planning department
• Assist with generating and maintaining innovative testing for equipment (etc. UT tie rod inspection, Vibration monitoring of motors and pumps, Strain Gauge Monitoring)
• Assist with providing risk and long term status of equipment/assets health
• Assist with generating and maintaining a contingency plans to deal with emergency equipment brake down

Equipment Risk Assessment Specialization Skills:
• FMEA-Failure modes of effect analysis
• Root Cause Analysis
• Six-Sigma
• Attention to detail
• Understand insurance terms for reviewing documents

Qualifications:
• Must be able to comply with ITAR and EAR residency requirements
• Knowledge of engineering systems according to assigned specialization
• Knowledge & understanding of mechanical and electrical schematics and systems

Education/Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
