Wealthfront is seeking a talented, passionate and broadly experienced Corporate Counsel to handle a wide variety of business legal and regulatory matters.  As a member of the legal team, this person will work closely with and report to our General Counsel as well as work with all other divisions of Wealthfront Inc., an SEC-registered investment adviser, and its wholly-owned broker-dealer subsidiary, Wealthfront Brokerage Corporation, including the engineering, product, marketing and compliance teams, to provide the best client experience possible.


  • Performing general in-house counsel activities related to a growing fintech company
  • Advising on laws and regulations that affect operations and compliance obligations including advising with respect to securities, contract, intellectual property and labor laws
  • Prepare commercial contracts, agreements and other documents for day-to-day business transactions
  • Assisting in corporate governance and securities matters
  • Collaborating with representatives from various departments on developing and modifying practices and procedures to conform with legal requirements
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
  • Interfacing with and managing outside counsel
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel


  • J.D. degree from a top-tier law school and licensed to practice in California, or the ability to apply for California's in-house counsel exemption
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience, with 2+ years of experience in a top national or international law firm
  • Ideal candidate would have experience with investment management and familiarity with the Investment Advisers Act, the Securities Act of 1933, and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.  Broker-dealer experience is a strong plus but not required
  • Familiar with a wide variety of general corporate and commercial transactional work
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to participate in developing company strategic and operational goals, and work closely with business units in their operational execution
  • Ability to provide hands-on counsel to all levels of executive and non-executive associates
  • Ability to identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, present clear recommendations, and assure legal compliance
  • Strong project management skills
  • Self-motivated and efficient, with good business judgment
  • Creative, with the confidence to present and advocate for the implementation of ideas
