Technical Lead - Sales Engineering

The B2B Sales Engineering team is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to build and design new systems, scale existing systems, mentor junior engineers and help set coding and platform standards across our teams!

About B2B Sales Engineering

The B2B Sales Engineering team is part of the Sales Engineering group that supports the Salesforce CRM platform for Wayfair business units including B2B / B2C / Media Sales / etc. The B2B team owns the workflows and tools including business lead identification, business account creation and enrollment, and data synchronization between Wayfair and Salesforce and workload distribution using Round Robin. The B2B Sales Engineering team works to support the approximately 1,000 Business Account Managers (BAMs) that sell Wayfair's products to businesses.We write our own playbook for success and working cross functionally with everyone from Engineering and Product to Merchandising and Category Management. We pride ourselves on delivering world-class pre- and post-sales support while always raising the bar for ourselves and the industry. 

Current Initiatives include:

  • Provide a simple, easy and streamlined way to BAM’s and Sales Agents to create Business Accounts and Contacts in Salesforce
  • A Commissions platform for the BAM’s to provide them real time information about their sales and commissions. The objective of this tool is to take out the anxiety about commissions from Agents mind so that they can focus solely on delivering a world class service to customers. 
  • Creating a scalable and real time Freight pricing platform for providing the BAM’s a way to get accurate pricing information about shipping in near real time
  • Sales funnel real time streaming service, every lead is processed in real time through a distributed and scalable platform that ensures no leads are left behind
  • A custom-built communications platform including a Salesforce-based phone system, SMS and chat capabilities - with the ability to integrate call data into Salesforce and Wayfair systems 

What you’ll Do

  • Serve as a key contributor as a Senior Engineer/Architect, capable of working both independently and within a team to accomplish tasks and projects assigned
  • Work on building new systems that scale horizontally, so experience with distributed systems is a plus
  • Build and maintain web-based tools used by our account managers and customers, so experience with client-side technologies like React/JS, CSS & HTML is preferred as well
  • Work on problems of scale - both when creating new systems and upgrading old ones
  • Attend technical design reviews and in-person code reviews
  • Work with team leads within Sales Engineering to formulate and maintain a technical vision and roadmap for our team
  • Partner with other technical teams to develop cross functional technology roadmaps and deliver solutions
  • Constantly re-evaluate the technology solutions by staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and drive to improve and develop the existing processes to the next level
  • Lead/mentor a strong team of Engineers

What You’ll Need

  • At least 7 years of professional experience in a senior engineer or technical lead role
  • Experience with Scaling Architecture and event driven architecture & microservices at scale
  • Knowledge of Streaming Architecture (Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, Python)
  • Expertise in full-stack development including Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and systems design. Knowledge of Architectural Patterns and Design Patterns is a must
  • Strong SQL, relational database design, and optimization knowledge. Any experience with no-SQL and/or time-series databases is a plus
  • Working experience with Salesforce highly preferred
  • Experience of building the tooling & automation to deliver Dockerized development and production run time environments
