Senior Graphics Engineer - 3D, XR

Wayfair’s XR and 3D Visualization team is looking for a Senior Graphics Engineer to help drive our products to the next level of performance and visual appeal. We aim to revolutionize the eCommerce experience via 3D and XR, and as a part of this team you’ll play a crucial role in engineering a highly scalable platform that’ll make this possible.

What You'll Do

  • Work with a team of engineers using ARKit, ARCore, Babylon.js, and Unity to create beautiful and performant customer-facing applications
  • Serve as the main point of contact and key collaborator between engineering, product management, UX design, and Wayfair’s 3D studio (responsible for asset production pipelines, tooling, and standards) 
  • Profile and optimize rendering engine performance, lighting models, and shaders across a variety of target platforms (namely mobile and desktop / web)
  • Create best-in-class look and feel for Wayfair’s customer-facing XR and 3D visualization products

Who You Are

  • 5+ years working extensively with real-time rendering systems and / or game engines such as Unity or UE4
  • Experience shipping to web, mobile, and headset targets
  • Solid knowledge of profiling and performance optimization
  • Strong knowledge of OpenGL, GLSL, WebGL(2), Metal
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills
  • Shader and lighting model design, implementation, and optimization
  • Render pipeline construction and optimization
  • Experience with optimizing assets for realtime rendering engines (meshes, textures, LODs, etc.)


  • Strong collaboration and communication skills 
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and technical ability within the constraints of development for web, mobile, and headset targets
  • Data-driven approach to prioritization of tasks
  • Ability to prototype quickly and present ideas / solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences

Bonus Points:

  • Web frameworks, scripting languages, and database engines:
    • React, Redux, Javascript, Python, PHP, SQL, NoSQL
  • DCC tools:
    • 3ds Max (or similar), Substance Painter / Designer, Photoshop, Vray material creation workflow
  • A degree in (or equivalent knowledge of) computer science or linear algebra / advanced mathematics
