Director of Technical Marketing, SEO

About the role

Wayfair is looking for a channel expert to proactively identify opportunities for growth in our SEO channel across our portfolio of brands. As the Director of Technical Marketing, you will lead the SEO channel and be a key driver of Wayfair’s explosive 40% YoY growth and have responsibility for a significant portion of the revenue of our $7B business. Our total addressable market is ~$600B, and rapidly moving from brick and mortar to online, creating a near-perfect opportunity to reach new and repeat customers through this channel.

A critical member of product and marketing leadership, you will lead a team of 15+ SEO professionals and content liaisons. You will have 8+ dedicated SEO engineers to drive results in the increasingly competitive SEO channel. Wayfair believes in building our own technology to allow for quick pivoting, growth, and full ownership of our data.  SEO is no exception. We have built and run all our SEO in-house, making this a unique opportunity to be part of a growing company that values SEO as a core channel.

As the Director of Technical Marketing, you’ll drive the strategy and solve for 10M+ products appearing across our portfolio of brands. You’ll drive traffic to our emerging product categories; owning the responsibility for customer discover of our vast product offerings for all things home, from grills to bookends. This role is truly cross functional where you’ll work closely with leaders in site navigation to ensure the optimum product appears at the top; and promotions leaders to leverage our analytics and drive traffic around season and holiday events.

You’ll also own the execution, testing and learning quickly, iterating to ensure our customers can find what they need and that we maintain our competitive SEO advantage. The technical aspects of this role should not be understated. Wayfair’s marketing function is as data driven as it is analytical. Qualified candidates must have strong quantitative skills to leverage to incredible amount of data Wayfair has and drive the channel forward. As we’ve expanded, this channel, which jump started our business, has remained core to Wayfair’s continued rapid growth and leadership in the eCommerce space. What You'll Do
  • Own the strategy to ensure breakthrough organic traffic growth across our entire portfolio of websites and product categories.
  • Own cross-functional initiatives between SEO, product, marketing, engineering, site merchandising, and category.
  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of SEO professionals, including a group of dedicated engineers and content writers.
  • Monitor daily performance metrics of organic search and quickly respond to deviations.
What You'll Need
  • At least eight years of experience in a fast-paced, multi-faceted eCommerce environment
  • Can-do and hands on approach to tackling hurdles and getting things done. Experience building and delivering aggressive road-maps
  • Data-driven approach to decision making
  • Demonstrated track record of business growth
  • Minimum of three years of experience in driving cross functional initiatives in collaboration with team members, not all of whom are direct reports
  • Superb attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced environment
  • Track record of success driving significant results
  • Ability to communicate effectively to senior and executive management; exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills that can be tailored to internal partners
  • Seasoned in managing timelines, delivery, dependencies, communication across teams
  • Analytically comfortable building a strategy and story using large data sets
  • Ability to think and perform both tactically and strategically
  • Able to pivot readily and react to real-time data

  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills including experience managing high performing teams
