Content Delivery Network SRE, Platform Engineering

On the Site Reliability Engineering team as an SRE Edge and CDN Engineer, you'll have a multitude of opportunities to flex your strengths as well as learn new things while directly assisting our internal customers. We contribute to (and create) bleeding edge open source projects and continuously push the envelope to explore the future of e-commerce and distributed infrastructure systems. The Edge and CDN  team focuses on managing edge load balancers, Content Delivery Networks and External DNS services.

What You’ll Do

  • Write clean, high-performance, and well tested, infrastructure code with a focus on reusability
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation
  • Establish, maintain, and adhere to Wayfair technical standards, policies, and procedures principles and provide guidance on system performance and throughput expectations.
  • Path finding missions; evaluate and implement new technologies to optimize content delivery and performance of the platform (QUIC, HTTP2/3, HTTP2 Server push, TLS 1.3 Zero RTT, TCP BRR, etc)
  • Design/Implement new automation tools for external DNS, content delivery network to simplify, visualize and audit edge level changes.
  • Work on consistently improving monitoring for content delivery
  • Architect for smooth traffic shifts and balancing for costs between different DNS/CDN vendors
  • Work closely with business, software and infra partners on constant platform improvements

What You Have

  • 3+ years of systems and network engineering experience
  • Prior success in automating and maintaining a large scale real-world production environment
  • Familiar with deployment patterns/strategy (blue/green, canary, rolling, draining)
  • Development experience with continuous integration (CI/CD) and automation tools such as GIT, Jenkins, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Python, Terraform, etc.
  • Experience managing full application stack with high availability requirements
  • Experience working with web technologies such as Nginx/HAProxy/Varnish/CDNs/DNS at large scales
  • Able to engage in high-level client-side architecture discussions
  • Experience with performance tuning
  • Advanced Operating System Skills with knowledge of Linux internals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work well within a team
