The Network Engineer will serve as a key member on the VMware Global Network Advanced Services Team. This individual will be responsible to engage on all aspects of process design, testing, implementation, deployment, documentation, remediation and governance activities as needed.

  • Review existing network architectures and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work with ticketing systems, change control processes, and execute changes.
  • Help troubleshoot network issues and thoroughly document resolutions.
  • Support lab environments and the teams that utilize them.
  • Create lab environments for the evaluation of new strategies and technologies.
  • Review and implement network security measures to achieve a highly secure environment.
  • Compare the defined standards for network configurations against active deployments and identifying changes that are required, then implementing the changes using automation such as GitHub/Ansible.
  • Drive the retirement of legacy networks to reduce complexities.
  • Document routine changes with the creation of runbooks.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with change control best practices
  • 6-10 years of networking experience in Cisco or Juniper
  • Cisco CCNA/CCDA certifications, or equivalent industry certification or experience
  • Layer 2 switching protocols (Ethernet, VLAN, STP, LACP, VXLAN)
  • Layer 3 routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, VRRP, EVPN)
  • WAN technologies (IPsec, MPLS, SD-WAN, VPLS)
  • Other protocols such as 802.1q, 802.1x, 802.11, RADIUS, SNMP, TACACS+, QoS
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in implementing and administering complex firewall configurations


DESIRABLE:
  • Previous experience with Aruba, Palo Alto Networks
  • Some experience with programming languages such as Python or Perl
  • Scripting experience with Bash, or PowerShell
  • Automation experience with tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Jenkins
  • Monitoring solutions such as SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, Splunk
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Sharepoint
  • Some experience with VMware NSX
