What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
The Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) product known as Workspace ONE continues to be industry leading in terms of customer adoption, capabilities and innovation. As a result of that success and of our customer's expectations, we are currently working to modernize the Workspace ONE platform to allow it to scale for the next set of new business opportunities and leading-edge use cases.
This modernization effort involves updating process, adding new tooling, adding support for mixed infrastructure (public cloud, on-premises, hybrid, containers), and improving the observability of the system. Adding to the challenge, we are doing this while 'keeping the lights-on' for customers using the current platform version in their production environments.
We are looking for a business leader who can thrive in such an environment and help us lead this vision. You should have experience leading a product, setting up road map for the same, partnering with product management and product marketing across different geographical locations. You should lead, grow and motivate world class software development teams. Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
- Success in the role is defined by the ability to lead, grow and motivate the world-class development teams. Encourage innovation in the team, up-level skillset for the team and laying down growth plan for team.
- Participate in strategic planning and management for product portfolios, investment, resources, product releases, etc.
- You will develop a solid understanding of the product and lead the development of multiple core Unified Endpoint Management teams for both On-premise and Cloud deployment, taking product to the next generation architecture.
- Transform the organization and the software development process from delivering software only to delivering enterprise software and cloud services.
- Leading engineering design and development efforts including providing guidance to several teams building services, ensuring that the solution is delivered on-time and with high quality
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Most of your time will be spent in leading, growing and building software development teams. You are expected to up-level the team skills, encourage innovation and lay down development plan for the team.
You will need to become very familiar with the market we operate in and problems the product addresses. Understand the challenges and limitations of the existing system. Demonstrate the ability to contribute to engineering roadmap and design discussions considering both of these.
You will help drive teams doing refactor and redesign efforts that involve driving order-of-magnitude performance improvement in services while ensuring they are extensible to support innovative new use cases.
You would help transform the organization and software development process from delivering software only to enterprise software and cloud services.
You are also expected to build the Devops skills in the team to help maintain the software services delivered by the team.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Rahul Rawat, Director Engineering UEM. His experience is quite varied and has served in Engineering Leadership positions across cloud and enterprise software. Rahul has been with VMware for over a year now. Before this Rahul has experience in building top teams doing highly scalable SaaS development using varied cloud technologies.
Rahul's management philosophy is to build a team culture that empowers technology experts to work autonomously without concern of undue management oversight. He is there to ensure the team is working on the appropriate business priorities and ensure the team is able to work most effectively.
Rahul expects you to build, grow and motivate the development teams. You should be able to up-skill the team skill, lay down their development plans. You should be a natural leader where you lead the team by example and empower them enough for success. You should be someone with whom the team can connect well and see you as their natural leader. You should be a technology savvy person who would encourage innovation in the team and would lead the engineering roadmap and design for the product.
