Job Description

Datacenter Operations team provideс service and support to VMware's IT and R&D Engineering departments across EMEA. The team is responsible for deploying, configuring and handling the R&D and IT infrastructure equipment within the local labs. The Data Center Engineer will possess extensive technical knowledge, interpersonal and good communication skills to ensure projects and tasks are completed on time and meeting customer expectations. We're looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You will participate in many Datacenter/MDF/IDF build-out, relocation and remediation projects. In addition, proactively learn and understand Datacenter and IT infrastructure technologies with VMware platform adoption and standardization.

Responsibilities:

You're responsible for maintaining the infrastructure that services EMEA office sites and R&D labs. This includes day-to-day operation of VMware's data center facility, including, but not limited to:

∙ Work within IT Engineering Labs across EMEA datacenters and server rooms for equipment installation, deployment, move, change, cabling, decommission and disposal.

∙ Facilitate design, setup, configuration and maintenance of custom projects. Provide day to day operation and technical support of multi-vendor multi-tenant datacenter environment

∙ Troubleshooting of servers, storage and network hardware, software, and configuration of all components

∙ Rack and stack, cable management and capacity planning within the server rooms

∙ Power, space and cooling technical reviews within procurement cycle of IT equipment and peripherals for the datacenters and server rooms

∙ Prioritize requests on multiple assignments to meet business deadlines

∙ Take part in complex projects for remote sites for new build-outs or infrastructure updates

∙ Conduct regular checks and audits on the IT equipment inventory and update of the associated records in multiple tools

∙ Ensure compliance with data center standards, policies, and processes via the defined change control process

Requirements:

∙ Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years of experience

∙ Knowledge of server/storage/networking hardware

∙ Understanding of VMware ESXi, vCenter and vendor specific management software is a strong advantage

∙ Previous responsibilities in an enterprise data center environment and/or support of multi-layer IT solutions

∙ Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

∙ Data cabling knowledge and experience.

∙ Ability to communicate effectively

∙ Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changes in the scope and areas of expertise

∙ Previous experience of incident handling during off hours on call as is an advantage

∙ Self-motivated, able to work independently, and in a team environment

∙ Ability to work on multiple projects with various groups including Systems Engineers, Storage Engineers, Networking, and Design & Architecture, etc.

∙ Ability to interpret and translate customers' requests into action items

∙ The position has a physical component requiring the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. And may require working in cramped spaces, or elevated locations

∙ Travel 10% of time to support other locations if needed

∙ Very good working knowledge of English language
