Staff Quality Engineer

VMware is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Staff Quality Engineer to be a critical member of a stratetic directory services and identity management group. The team is responsible for delivering Lightwave, a world class directory server and identity management system, that is used by VMware’s award winning ESX and vSphere platforms, as well as new open-source offerings coming out of the Cloud Native Applications Business Unit.

The right candidate has a proven track record of having participated in and delivered major industry products. Applicants must be outstanding in many areas spanning technical skills, passion for quality and commitment to customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with engineers to understand product changes and prioritize testing accordingly
  • Write and execute API-level automated feature and regression tests for current releases
  • Write and execute automated scenario and stress tests for current releases
  • Continually evaluate and expand test coverage based on defect trends and new customer usage patterns
  • Ensure our software meets functional, robustness, performance, compatibility and security requirements.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years as a developer writing unit tests or Quality/Test Engineer writing automated API-level tests using Java, C#, or C++
  • Experience testing operating systems and distributed systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of security and distributed systems concepts
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent

Additional desired experience:

  • Good understanding of core operating systems and virtualization concepts
  • Open source Linux development experience
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Engine and/or Microsoft Azure
  • Familiarity with debugging operating systems failures using source or assembly debuggers
